It's true. I have a soft spot for them, but that's mostly because I'm a 1950s sci-fi junkie. I don't associate it with "Wow, heavy, maaaan!", I just get a boner because it might mean The Thing from Another World or The Day the Earth Stood Still might be on.

Yeah for sure, I mean I have no problem whatsoever with the theremin in the context of giant radioactive ants or flying saucers or what have you. Part of my loathing probably comes from this guy I worked with a few years ago who was a real try-hard steampunk dork type who you couldn't have any conversation with without it turning into some intellectual lecture on the True Deep Meaning of cyberpunk or whatever...he was, naturally, SUPER serious about theremins.
