I still see the 4th best team in the AL. I don't know I really really don't fucking see any better than that.
Lurio is a certified piece of shit but I honestly think he made them a way better team now even if it won't show for 3 years
although by then Hechavarria and Alvarez will be traded for more farm to repeat the process

Re: Pisscubes/Molester's Official MLB Thread NOW WITH '11!
Logic says they'll be a very good team, but I can't help but think they'll have a rough start due to all the big name guys they've just acquired, the new manager getting adjusted, etc. I think they'll be in first place in the AL East for a good portion of the summer, and then fall apart by the end of the season. I have no basis for this, I can just see it happening. I honestly think the Red Sox will be much better this year. Not because of Farrell, I don't think he's some magical cure for their woes, but I think they'll pick up some good pieces that will get them on a good roll.

I could very well see this happening, as well. I don't think it will, but I wouldn't be that surprised either. The Schwartz wrote:Red Sox will finish last, Blue jays no better than 3rd

braves signed bj upton for 5 or 6 years. feel free to call me an idiot for being annoyed by this. i've hated that asshole for years. maybe he'll magically learn to hit at 29. middle of the lineup is just going to be uggla and upton striking out 6 times a night.
BUT, he'll still put up good numbers and possibly get a bump moving from the AL east to the NL. we'll see. i'd probably be alright if he could somehow hit .275 and put up the rest of his stats.

I'd be annoyed too but fuck it. Lague move and change of scenery might help.

The Yankees just bet $22m for one season on two 40+ year old pitchers who both had major injuries last year.

I love the Upton move, I tentatively like dropping Hanson's payroll for a power righty setup guy. adding this new guy to Avilan, O'flaherty, Venters, and Kimbrel...Braves are now a shutdown team if they lead after six.
they still have decent money to spend on a LF...if McCann and Uggla bounce back, the Upton addition will just be surplus. Wren is making some damn good moves lately, IMO.

I see your point but I'm not sure you're considering the fact that Medlen will be starting all year, Beachy is rejoining rotation midseason, Hudson, Minor, and Maholm finish things out...Delgado/Teheran will be battling for a spot in spring training.Magick Sam wrote:eh, not sure if I like the hanson move. I mean he's a disaster, I think, but they're addressing a strength and they've investing heavily in their bullpen. that has historically not worked well for teams...they have bigger concerns
what I'm trying to say is, losing Hanson is no big deal because the Braves have starting pitching depth, and Hanson is as near a guaranteed albatross as you can get. even if Delgado sinks and Teheran is traded or rots in AAA, Braves have Sean Gilmartin who can bide time til Beachy returns.

you're talking crazy as hell dawg. I don't know what has come over you Zap but I was calling for this move weeks ago...check the got damn pages previous brah. this is some wizardly prognosticating GM shit on my part. bj upton has power, speed, can defend...and michael bourn was slightly overrated. dude struck out tons too, and its not like his caught stealing ratio was pretty.

For once I agree with Chad, he is right the Upton signing was a good one for the Braves they're better but I see them significantly weaker than the Nats still
Upton is a good baseball player and signed for a modest contract in todays market. Lots of GMs would pull that trigger if it were in the budget
but Zap once again shows his ignorance right off the heels of posting 3 laughy faces for the Yankees resigning Mariano Rivera and Hiroki Kuroda... yes he did that...

Indeed, yes. How irrational of me to think it is in error for a team who is ostensibly trying to limit payroll to spend $33 million for one year on 3 pitchers with an average age of 40 (who are looking at Francisco Cervelli as their battery mate by the way).
I'm still unsure why Pettitte will earn more than twice his 2010 salary.

I was surprised the Mets were taking offers on Dickey instead of negotiating a new deal first, but they should really trade him. Dickey's has an awesome story and seems like a solid guy, but it's just so risky taking on a 37 year old pitcher who could just be a flash in the pan.

I was really wanting Greinke, but I suppose for the price the Rangers' money can be better spent elsewhere. I wouldn't mind Anibal Sanchez, but the Moneybags Dodgers might be going in that direction too.
