Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
of all the 3 Nosferatu films, this is my least favorite but that doesn't mean i didn't like it. the acting from Hoult, Depp and Skarsgard always kept me engaged. Hoult is becoming a favorite of mine but Skarsgard's voice is like horror ASMR. Fantastic tone. Not a fan part of a certain element that Eggers expanded on. I guess it makes sense as a Christmas movie since the movie takes place around that time and even though its not a "Ghost" movie, this has the tone of those classic UK Christmas Horror movies.Hunter wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 5:21 pm Nosferatu ('24 | 132min) - 8/10 - Would have been a perfect movie if they hadn't spent twenty minutes having characters argue about how vampires probably enjoy drinking piss. Sure, I understand that they could potentially want to drink it more than almost any other liquid on earth - it makes sense, it's just filtered blood - but it seemed completely unnecessary. This is supposed to be a Christmas movie?

Studio 666 - 6/10
Some of the gore effects were very well done, and most kills were reasonably inventive. Most of it is rather goofy, though, and the fun of watching the Foo FIghters do and say silly stuff wears off after 15 minutes (except Pat Smear, who came across like a food obsessed Samoan). But I chuckled a couple of times.

Nosferatu (2024) 7
Felt like the ok cover song after the three solid original tracks Eggers gave us on his EP.
After this, Immaculate, The First Omen, and The Substance can we stop ripping off/homaging the Possession convulsion scene thanks? Lets do something else in 2025.

Tropic thunder - 7/10. Super good for the first 30 minutes or so then loses a ton of steam. It also pisses me off that hulu deems this fine but pulled the "blackface" episodes of always sunny. I guess if it's robert Downey jr it's fine

The Tall T - 8.5 - My first Budd Boetticher western. Written by Elmore Leonard (always a plus) very economic and dry yet tense western. Great villain by the nefariously solid Richard Boone.
My Young Auntie - 8 - Really fun atypical Shaw Bros jam starring the beautiful Kara Hui. Lau Kar-Leung in Shaw Brothers top 3 directors spot? Probably.
The Asphalt Jungle - 7.5 - Really good but John Huston's approach is too novelistic to really let the material sing. Engaging and great performances carry it.

Heretic - 8,5/10
Man this was entertainment as shit. Really tense, with great performances, and having Hugh Grant play a villain was an ingenious idea. Lots of philosophy of religion (which I enjoyed tremendously, since it's one of my favourite fields), most of which was integrated well into the plot. Some things happened very conveniently, but my suspension of disbelief, at least when watching a horror film, is pretty well developed. All in all, was happy that we chose this over Nosferatu, also because the reviews you guys posted weren't exactly gushing.

Alien Romulus - 7/10 maybe. Hated the boring beginning and the Gen Z cast but it grew on me. Honestly, with these fucking sequels (prequels?) these days, especially it being Disney, you can either get harmless yet unnecessary fan fiction (Force Awakens) or horse shit that taints the entire franchise (everything else Disney Star Wars). This thing had a call back to all 4 OG Aliens. If it had an Aliens vs Predator call back I wouldn’t remember nor care enough to catch it.

Romulus- 7
Was half expecting Rain to don a mech suit at the end there.
It was alright, and i fully expected a new xenomorph with the pregnant girl and they delivered….i guess.
Hilarious when the android voice shifted to an UK accent.
Still waiting for more blade runner crossover.

Fact #7
From an empirical viewpoint, the problem with Free Will (and causality) is reconciling determinism and freedom to make sense of morality.

Nosferatu 8/10
Very atmospheric, Bill Skarsgard rocked as Orlok. Hope Eggers doesn't end up like Tim Burton though, some of the cinematography in Nosferatu was dangerously close to the sterile overstilized chewing gum bullshit Tim Burton has churned out in the last 20 years.

Spiderman ('02) - 6/10. I wanted to watch drag me to hell again but didn't want to pay four bucks so I went to the raimi film I hadn't seen in the longest time and man, this is a mess. I mean I get it it's his first blockbuster but they watered down the SHIT out of the raimi

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
It’s a weird one. At the time it was great because superhero flicks were fucking rancid outside of a hand full of Batman or Superman flicks. So, by comparison to things like The Phantom, Spawn, or Batman with nipples, it was tremendous, despite Power Ranger Green Goblin. But since then, outside of watching The Machoman, I have no desire to see it again. Spider-Man 3 belongs next to movies like Spawn, by the way. Sony fucking sucks.ghost boner wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:01 pm Spiderman ('02) - 6/10. Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
I'm trying to get my sampling game back on point, so that's my excuse for watching all eight of the Howling movies. The australian ones are pure cringe, and ruin the franchise early on. The occasional attempts at continuity are beyond weak, and there is more just watching the 80s go by and become the 90s. Howling II had Christopher Lee, and Sybil Danning's tits, but those were the only high marks for the whole mess.
