21 Jump Street - 6/10
Ancillary laughs that happened far more frequently than I expected; mostly dumb casting; did they honestly want us to feel kinda gooey over a cop that falls in love with a high schooler? They tried some fourth wall shit that hurt it was so forced.
Saw the Avengers trailer; can't believe how bad it looks

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
Absentia 8/10
A movie about a woman who finally has her missing husband legally declared dead after 7 years and then he appears out of nowhere wearing the same clothes that he disappeared in. Low budget flick and some of the acting here and there was a little rough around the edges, but overall there was a really disturbing vibe to this movie.
Take Shelter 9/10
I am really starting to love Michael Shannon. He was insanely awesome in Bug and he's just about as awesome here. Movie is filled with paranoia and craziness (which seems to be right up his alley) and just a really interesting take on an end-of-the-world movie.

I think it's because he really does seem like a goddamn moron, but when he plays one, it comes off as sweet and genuine. And him being in with the nerds was just fantastic. The Schwartz wrote:godofdeadlydeath wrote:21 Jump Street - 8/10 - Way funnier than I anticipated. Stupid, a lot of cliches, but a ton of laughs.
yep. I don't understand it but Channing Tatum was some sort of comedic genius

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
was it on this board that i was talking about how i'm really not at all butthurt about a total recall remake?
i mean it's not really my favorite pkd story, arnold movie, or verhoeven film by any stretch, i feel like there's room for another version of it out there
i don't know if this is the one, but whatever

if there's anybody in the world who'd be fucking unobservant enough to actually damage themselves with trap-soap I guess it'd be the guy with dialup in 2007

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
can't remember much previous discussion but that sounds reasonable
as I see it, Total Recall is iconic because it is the final blockbuster sci-fi/action movie done with a vast majority of practical effects
so the new one being devoid of practical effects makes it an entirely different beast considering what "counts" to me about the original
can't wait to at the nu-yoda-looking CGI Kuato they bring to the table
that Wrath of Titans trailer looked like a monster mash - and of course the reviews are shit - buh ... I didn't see the first one but my little sister liked it?

speaking of practical effects, apparently MiB 3 is loaded with them.
sad that that's now a thing to get excited about when read
