Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
Shake Down is one of those films I'd watch on HBO a million times as a kid. I remember one of the bad guys threatening someone with prison rape in the most vulgar way possible. Probably one of the hundreds of movies I shouldn't have been allowed to watch growing up.

I didn't really want to spoil it but I seem to remember the line being something like: "we will put you in here with big Leroy. After a few years you'll be able to look up your ass and see the sky."featherboa wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 10:11 am haha yeah it was like "N-word bull" or something. i was like jeez

Pretty much takes a huge dump on Prometheus while Jar-Jar Binks-ing the original good films. I hate modern day everything and this just adds to it. But, hey, two robots have a robot fight.

The Killer - 7/10 - Fassbender is great in it, but other than the opening "chapter" I just felt kind of unengaged. Tilda Swinton's part was great too, but too brief.
Knock at the Cabin - 8/10 - I think I like M. Night again. This was good. Batista was great in it.
Cocaine Bear - 11/10 - Exactly what I expected and wanted from it. Great cast, funny action, teenagers doing coke, and limbs being torn off.

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
Elephant - 2/10 if I'm being generous.
I've sometimes asked myself if movies that are done in a mockumentary or otherwise expressly naturalistic style need good actors to work, or if the visual style is enough to carry them. Clearly Gus Van Sant asked himself the same thing and tried making one with a bunch of people who can't act.
I mean, either that, or he just really badly wanted to make a movie about a school shooting because he thought it'd be edgy and cool and he'd be relevant again because it had been a few years since Good Will Hunting, but he also had absolutely nothing to say on the topic (except, I dunno, What If Columbine, But Gay?), and so he just filmed a bunch of teenagers walking around for 80 minutes and shrugged.
Seriously, I can't think of a worse movie I've seen in years.

God, I can’t remember shit about this. Bruce Campbell was in the credits. And the female Ash was played by some red head from a comedy where she was that typical snarky Juno/Veronica Mars type. I guess they thought she’d be quipping like the real Ash in a sequel but this film didn’t have that Evil Dead 2 humor, that I can recall. Girl Ghostbusters grinds my gears but this I guess doesn’t try too hard so it’s harmless. I don’t know.Necrometer wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 10:45 pm evil dead (2013) 5.9/10 just studying up for the alien movie i guess… why make a joyless evil dead movie, though?

If I remember corectly it was pretty grim, which is infinitely preferable to badly done mcu-style quipping (which is what you can expect today, they won't ever get the insane black comedy of Evil Dead 2 right again)The Bill wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 11:26 pmGod, I can’t remember shit about this. Yes, Jane Levy from Suburgatory, an ABC sitcom that lasted 2, maybe 3 seasons? I liked that show, but then she was on some musical show on NBC where she got a head injury and then started hearing everyone singing. Something dumb like that. The Bill wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 11:26 pmGod, I can’t remember shit about this. Bruce Campbell was in the credits.
