Fair score, maybe even a bit generous - this was a really cool idea though, wasn't it? Made me wanna pick up the book. Watched this one blind with no knowledge of what I'd be seeing at all, always improves things.Raw Ting wrote:Pontypool- 6.8/10

I too went into it without knowing about it, except for the netflix description which made it seem like a basic zombie movie. It was solid, but I felt it ended abruptly and they could've taken it into another direction or played it out further. the concept was original and interesting for sure.

Blood: The Last Vampire 3.8/10
Cheesy martial arts horror whatever, dragged down by less-than-convincing CGI, clunky performances and head-scratching set pieces that add up to wasted potential. If you got 80 some odd minutes to kill, you could do worse... but you could also do much better. Choose wisely.

I felt the exact same way. It isn't poorly executed or anything and it's such an awesome idea but shit just never goes from good to great. Really interested in the book too, has anyone read it? I'm having a tough time figuring out how it's executed in print.james wrote:Fair score, maybe even a bit generous - this was a really cool idea though, wasn't it? Made me wanna pick up the book. I saw Goblin last week and I've since been re-watching all of Argento's stuff, so far
Inferno (Argento) - 7/10. Keith Emerson's score fucking rules.
Deep Red - 8.5/10. Best Argento. I've only ever seen the long version with all the goofball shit but I've always heard that Argento's preferred version is the much shorter US cut. Weird. Probably my favorite Argento/Goblin collaboration too.
Phenomena tomorrow. I'm saving Suspiria for a little later in the month.

im always compelled to watch "the crate" at least once a year. the rest of the movie is pretty meh to me, not counting ed harris's dancing, but that section just demands reviewing. best part is when the ape bites the nerds necks. 80s gore effect ftwMooretician wrote:Creepshow - 9/10. Love this movie so much. I'm sure at least a point or two of that score is pure nostalgia but fuck it, shit's great. I have a crippling fear of cockroaches that I am fairly certain this movie is responsible for.
saw gravity in 3d and it was cool i guess. no desire to watch it again though. feel like it would be very boring to watch in 2d/on a small screen

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo remake - 6.5/10 Servicable remake with a few nice and horrible deviations from the original. Ending blew, would rather hear K-pop than Nu-metal Immigrant Song, Noomi Rapace > Rooney Mara's rendition of Lost Highway Robert Blake.

Remember that Food Inc. movie? Imagine way more slaughterhouse and animal torture scenes and that's what you get.

Korean supernatural romp with wizards and monsters and comedy, oh my. Some martial arts, though more of the magical than technical variety. The iffy CG creatures are iffy, but there's not too much of that going on. Not bad overall...

The Summit. 7/10. Documentary on mountain climbers trying to conquer K2. For those of you who saw Rush, F1 racers have a 20% chance of dying in a race. One has a 25% chance of dying trying to reach the Summit of K2 and making it back alive. This movie is intense and depressing cos unlike all these disaster movies, this shows teal tragedy and death.
Saw Gravity for the third time. What a fun ride it is.
watching Runner Runner now. About to walk out cos it sucks so bad. Lame shit.

gravity (imax 3D)- 7/10
maybe generous? I had fun, but I really expected this to be stranger and more bleak. the children of men connection had me maybe too hyped. so that was disappointing. this was, I think, the first 3D experience that I truly enjoyed, but I would have enjoyed it much more had the characters not said any of the things that they said. horrendous dialogue/monologue. I had problems with the music. and there were times when this felt like one of those universal simulation rides like terminator
but it looked really fucking cool, so I guess I can forgive most of this shit

children of men was just great but flopped hard - gotta dumb things down if you want to continue getting the massive SFX cash, I guess
even a "cerebral" movie like Inception has to be handholdy with details and in-your-face sentimental...

The bonus scene at the end was the only funny part. Even John Goodman couldn't save it.

The more I think about Gravity, the more I think about how Apollo 13 was such a superior film.
