Lego Batman - 8/10

Giant smile on my face the whole time. It wasn't quite as good as The Lego Movie (which I apparently didn't rate here for some reason but I feel in my heart's movie rating thread is a strong 8.5/10) and some of it was corny even relative to the world it inhabited, but still overall a super fun afternoon viewing.

But please keep in mind seeing any old Lego brick doing absolutely nothing at all but existing on the same material plane as me turns me into a clapping guffawing faggot so this is about as close to a can't fail movie as possible for me. Which is sort of weird because I had no interest in the first Lego movie until I watched it and then was like man I'm so dumb sometimes.

not hard at all to believe that the movie's worth watching - the trailer's really solid and the reviews have been strong

GET OUT 8.1/10 I saw an advance screening of jordan peele's thriller and it's really good. there's some silliness to the plot, but it's worth it overall. really solid balance of funny/creepy.

it was hundreds of UC berkeley undergrads who are majority asian (in the broad sense) and apparently laugh at EVERYTHING. I heard that they were cracking up throughout a free screening of midnight

Suicide Squad - 6/10

Not as terrible as everyone said. Really, there's nothing too seriously wrong with it, it's just kind of boring and it drags. The cast is actually pretty good, they just don't get to do much that's interesting. But compared to Snyder's DC movies, this one's totally fine.

The old lady and I were in Ottawa for a wedding last weekend and she stayed for an extra week whereas I had to come back for work. Got caught up on a lot of movies I've wanted to watch for years.
