Reading this Czech novel "The Cremator" it isn't doing much for me. I think it would have more emotional impact if the author was an actual nazi like Celine.

The last few chapters were much better. Maybe I'm an uncultured swine but this would have worked a lot better as a 40 or 50 page short story. Maybe the long ramp up is needed for the brutal effect of the end but I don't think it helps convey the farce any better.

Parts of this were amazing. I’m balls deep in the Dark Forest now and it’s not at all what I was expecting, in a good way.

those 3BP sequels are nuts

this great song is about the first book:

I don't come in peace, I come alone / There's something in the stars, you ought to know
A cry from outer space / We've lost our home
But I only come in warning / Heed the message, don't take long / Abandon all your research, as it's wrong
You know not what you do / But we know all of you / Time is running out / And we're...
Deep sixed in the morning light / Can't you hear me? / Foundations have been laid / The lord will soon invade / Three suns will fade away
I beg, be rid of us / I heed your message loud and clear / A twisted, vile race exists in paradise, in space / And I say we must fall
I am but a Rebel of Earth / Appraised for all that it's worth / No long will you burn or freeze
Deep sixed in the morning light / Can't you hear me? / Foundations have been laid / The lord will soon invade / Three suns will fade away
Sunset for humanity / One last chance for gravity
Deep sixed in the morning light / Can't you hear me? /
See these battle scars / Sound a curse among the stars / The sea will dry away...

Boo has 1,000 bad roommate stories about JP the singer of Traveler. Just terrible.

He used to listen to records on the front porch, by opening his second story window and blasting the music - then run downstairs and just fucking talk over the music anyway.

Sounds like the kind of asshole that would force you to listen to Animal Collective in a car and then put on headphones.

ahahaha this is not the first shit-talk I've heard about the guy

he clearly has a reputation but nothing I've heard so far makes me think he's even 1/10 as evil as a dwyer

I was in the WC queue with him at a show they played and he seemed like a decent enough guy when we chatted

apparently he's moved to the SF bay area so I'm now on the front lines of the JP tabloid engine
