Are you going to finish The Southern Reach? I remember you only gave the first book a 6.

I read "Zama" and was bored for most of it. The last few pages did kick my ass though. I'm probably getting burnt out on esoteric literature or just getting too old and stupid to appreciate it. Reading S.N.U.F.F. By Viktor Pelevin and really enjoying it.

I wish I could have gotten more out of Mason And Dixon. Crying Of Lot 49 is probably my favorite Pynchon.

Pym - Mat Johnson 8.5/10. Such a weird book.
Finished Miss Lonely Heart and diving right into Day Of The Locust. Sucks that Nathaniel West ran that stop sign at 37. Eerily died the day after F Scott Fitzgerald kicked the bucket.

If anyone cares a newer Lazlo K novel is coming out around September if you want to pre order it. Was published in 2021 but this will be the first American translation. I can't exactly bring myself to dive into something this dense with so many other things I want to read first.

Until now I've somehow ignored this thread, but recently I've stumbled on articles about Gene Wolf that say he's considered one of the greatest Scifi authors of the 20th century by many other authors, and now I'd really like to read one of his books. So what should I read first?

Actually you should read Samuel R Delany's "dhalgren" first. It has under age bisexual three ways and a 100 page long section about moving furniture from one apartment to another.

Re: Latest Gene Wolfe book you read (1-10 scale)
i was trying a test google search for you just to see what it would say and the results are making me a bit sympathetic to your plight…
i’d suggest that you start with the first book: the book of the new sun, which is the first 4 books, naturallyAnd by "the first 4 books" you mean Shadow & Claw and Sword & Citadel? In other words, the entirety of The Book of the New Sun (which I guess is just the first omnibus/volume in the "Solar Cycle")? Or do you mean the four "books"/omnibuses of the Solar Cycle: The Book of the New Sun, The Urth of the New Sun, The Book Of The Long Sun and The Book of the Short Sun?

If they're not at least 21 and married, I don't want to read it
clarification for featherboa, who seems to think he is a particularly funny individual: Gene Wolf in all likelihood worked on more than one series, and I obviously asked for opinions on which one you would recommend....
