yeah i read underworld a year or two ago. i remember reading that cold six thousand was his most extreme prose, but White Jazz seemed pretty much the same to me.Geeheeb wrote:i can't even with the prose of white jazz.

Latest book you read (1-10 scale)
i actually hated the majority of the book but the ending made up for everything. I was really hoping for Alia to rub one out during that bath scene. I fapped anywaysHonky Kong 64 wrote:Accurate.electronichamz wrote:Oh shit forgot about Dune Messiah 8/10

Death on the Devil's Teeth - The Strange Murder that Shocked Suburban New Jersey - 7/10
An armchair detective book investigating the 1972 unsolved murder of Jeannette DePalma. Written by a founder of, and a contributor to, Weird NJ, the book expands on the occasional coverage that appeared in the magazine during the past decade or so. Through interviews of friends, family, investigators, etc., the authors attempt to piece together exactly what happened to the unfortunate teenager all those years ago. Do they solve the crime? No, but their speculation is fairly convincing, maybe? A bit wordy at times, but overall it's a good read.

Re: Latest book you read (1-10 scale)
One of the saddest, most hysterical and absolutely fucked up things I've ever read. Felt like some collaboration between David Cronenberg and Terry Gilliam (if they were writers) with maybe a bit of David foster Wallace only much more mean spirited. I can't rate this.Cascade Whore wrote:I'm nine pages into Katherine Dunn's "Geek Love" and it's already demented beyond belief

[movie-related book dump]
the disaster artist 7/10 this is the book about the making of the room. doesn't really dispel any of the mystery about tommy wiseau; instead provides a great look at what a maniac he is. the book is supposedly by co-star greg sestero, but his co-writer tom bissell clearly did almost all of the literary heavy lifting. and it IS well-written. I like the parallels between the greg/tommy story and the talented mr. ripley. I have no idea what to expect from the adaptation of this book that's on its way by james franco & friends. I know that I should be mad and sure that it will suck, but i'll probably just see it with an open mind (and then get mad about it sucking)
zona 7.5/10 this book is, by its own admission, unclassifiable. it's a book-length movie review of tarkovsky's stalker done in the form of snobby stream-of-consciousness essay that plays along with the movie, scene-by-scene. it didn't add too much to my understanding/appreciation of the movie, but the guy is a great writer... so the book works.
roadside picnic 8/10 this is the short book that inspired stalker. solid sci-fi that feels a lot like bradbury at his best. the book is split into four quarters/chapters and the one that's NOT about the main stalker protagonist is easily the least interesting.
