It’s not in any of his short story collections but a few years ago I found online somewhere the original “The Crate” that got turned into one of the shorts in Creepshow. It was by far one of those most fucked up things he ever wrote. You really felt like this thing could not exist in our universe and King was able to channel the feeling of the victims losing their mind directly into your brain while reading the story.

SPOILER

one slightly funny part was in the story the only part of the wife that isn’t eaten by the creature is her face while in the movie that’s the first thing it eats

I gotta track that down. I really have a soft spot in my heart for his short stories, especially from that era. Skeleton Crew and Night Shift were both so fucking entertaining as a young lad <3

I've barely touched anything SK has put out in the past 20 years... maybe four books total. I keep meaning to pick up one of those detective stories he put out but I never quite find myself doing it.

Light in August - 7.5/10

First foray into Faulkner and was pleasantly surprised, especially with the way his segued into character povs and delved into compelling backstories.

This whole series was great. Bakker is a damn fine writer. Of all the fantasy I have read, I have never been sucked into a world like I have in this series. Definitely going for the next series.
On book one of this right now and totally in love with it.
