I think they ditched the papyrus-like font years ago. for what, you ask? they've got that Pandora area at disney world, and then there was the lame cirque de soleil thing (which I saw, after flying to Ohio and then driving to Cincinnati  )

new footage reportedly looks good - there's a bunch of high frame rate stuff going on so it reportedly looks motion smoothed. the HFR hobbit footage I saw looked like making-of footage, but I'm hopeful that an all CGI fantasy world will dodge that. I saw part of that "two will smiths" ang lee movie in HFR and it looked OK!

I'm mostly just stoked to see the first one in laser IMAX - I don't think that shit even existed in 2009. reportedly they're remastering it 👽

Necrometer wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2009 10:15 pmI just bootleg'd the SHIT out of the new trailer, via SAW VI sneak-in/bail-out. It's really bad-ass in a hippie sort of way, and I'm returned to my full pumpedness of before the teaser came out. The visuals are fucking crazy and it really doesn't seem like he's Lucas'd this one. I'm pumped.

[dead link]

BTW the state of affairs in the theater was VERY SAD from a sociological standpoint. Tons and tons of sleeper juggalos, thy mecca is SAW midnight showing.
here's an article reacting to my bootleg

super sad there's no point in me doing this again, even though there will be a week of theater-only exclusivity. digital recording is so rampant that I wouldn't be surprised if someone figured out how to bootleg it in 3D

I am going to rewatch Avatar soon

Ross thank you for maintaining your passion for this thing, for so many years- most people are weak and have no passion.

I dont love Avatar but I love James Cameron to fucking death, to fucking death, to fucking death I root for James Cameron to kill people and go crazier every time

 :rhug:

regarding that rewatch... remember that the first one is going back into theaters! my brain-damaged girlfriend loathes all CGI and has only seen Avatar via home projectors (once in a science lab conference room while we were all drinking, and once outdoors - the edit described below) and never fully paid attention to it. she will be brought ALL THE WAY up to speed this fall.

I can't remember if I posted about this, but I made a G-rated edit of Avatar so my nieces could watch it - they were like 4 & 7 at the time. it's just 90 minutes and has almost zero humans. the military types show up only to (1) topple hometree, and then (2) get wrecked in the final battle.

now, I think the older of my nieces could probably handle the whole movie, and I'm stoked to go see it with her in september. probably flying to ohio to do that (it's also ren faire season)

hahaha seriously

a slightly clearer version is already floating around now

for a second I thought JC himself leaked a deliberately shit quality version, in hopes of recreating my heroic, blurry 2009 leak (which people ironically seemed more open to than the HD trailer because the uncanny valley is less harsh that way)

"I just saw "Avatar"
Fucking incredible. There were a few hacky and cliche moments, but in the big picture that's all forgiven. Easily the best movie I've ever seen.
By an hour and a half into the movie I totally wanted to fuck that blue chick."

ahahah hell yeah

he's not gonna beat Endgame though, right? There's no fuckin way.
Some movies have done pretty good post-pandemic but numbers are still down... and I think people aren't as interested in this one as with the first, they're jaded to 3D. Maybe really really positive word of mouth could push it through but...
