he's not gonna beat Endgame though, right? There's no fuckin way.
Some movies have done pretty good post-pandemic but numbers are still down... and I think people aren't as interested in this one as with the first, they're jaded to 3D. Maybe really really positive word of mouth could push it through but...
$3B is a lock if the movie is good

it’ll be closer to $4B

$1B in china alone

if you inflation adjust force awakens domestic that’s almost $1B - easy to top

the first one already topped endgame and will be crossing $3B with the release this fall

I don't think it'll hit 2b during its initial theatrical run. Could wind up eating those words, but the only thing close to that since 2019 has been Spiderman: SpiderBoys, and the hype for that was extreme.

I'm only posting in "audacious" mode in here - my logical brain would not be surprised if this movie severely underperforms.

I showed my normie wife the trailer and she's like "this sucks" ... she has no love for the first one, but acknowledged that the its teaser was way better

can this possibly be real? if so... $4B WW

  The woman and I are finally getting hitched in about a week... she immediately starts squirming and trying to walk away if I even mention Avatar. It's only happened two or three times - I literally have never spoken to her about the first one for more than 2 minutes. Something about my fascination with JC causes an intuitive form of revulsion I think.

I waited fucking 3 hours to do the Aviator ride at Disney. Lost my booze buzz and everything. Fuck this series. Wasn’t worth it. Resident Evil 7 on the shitty PS4 VR is way better and will scare your dick out of your tits.

I saw this in 3D IMAX before dr strange and am not wowed. this brings back the sinking feeling I had when I realized that the first one was going to be more like a disney movie than aliens/T2...

I had been hoping that the CG would be an order of magnitude better than the original - like, really super convincing new threshold shit.

I'm really mostly excited to witness JC's mania. I feel like we're in Spruce Goose gear... third act of The Aviator, kleenex shoes and jars. I get really happy thinking about that.

I would love it, but his mania has only manifested as veganism so far :-/

and yes, everything in that trailer is incremental. feels like all the SW expansion stuff. now the navi have fins. bad guy is back as a blue meanie. eeehhh...

the underwater mocap apparently took 10x the work, but looks 10% more interesting

“What I said to the Fox regime at the time was, ‘I’ll do it, but we’ve got to play a larger game here. I don’t want to just do a movie and do a movie and do a movie. I want to tell a bigger story’,” he explains. That meant a comparison with a certain literary saga. “I said, ‘Imagine a series of novels like The Lord Of The Rings existed, and we’re adapting them.’ Now, that was great in theory, but then I had to go create the frickin’ novels from which to adapt it.”
he went and did it

he took a decade and created the frickin' novels

is there anything he can't do?!?
