Welp, I ran past everything on the horse to what I assume is the first boss and got soundly massacred, so I backtracked out of there and now I guess I'm just going to stroll around and level up a bit.

I also bumped into the big-ass dragon on the lake by accident, but at least you can run away from it, lel. I still feel like I don't really know what I'm doing, but the exploration's got me by the balls. It's fun.

Screw Dark Souls 4 and Robot Dinosaur Hunter 2, that Infernax looks like the real new game to get, despite it looking like an old game. Holy shit!

Yennifer is really just a stuck up cunt that happens to have S&M urges. Fuck, after staring right at her nakedness, she makes Geralt turn around while she gets dressed. Fucking bitch is trying to pussy whip my boy. Is this sexual gaslighting? Fuck her, going straight back to Triss. Triss is probably a fun fuck, while Yenn has rules and sections you have to follow.
Regardless, played way to much Witcher way to quickly. Played some Super Castlevania IV as a palette cleanser of sorts.
Had a co-worker years ago that would masto bate over Secret of Mana. There’s a rom hack called Turbo that supposedly changes issues with it for the better/streamlined. Any thoughts on Secret of Mana?

I got about 10 hours into secret of mana and didn't enjoy it too much. It's really nice to look at and listen to but I guess I just should've played it at the time. Unpopular opinion ofc, don't want to steer you away from it.

Goddamn psychology experiment over here. Adding a bunch of crosses into and turning slim into blood just makes SNES Castlevania so much more threatening, and adult. I’m getting a Genesis vibe from it. Wonderful!

I love swcret of mana but I played it very hard when it came out and people might forget that one of its major selling points was to play it cooperative with friends. Which I did and it's one if those touchstone video game memories for me because of it
Grinding it solo and powering up the weapons with dumb ai companions is probably not the best way to play it
Music is obviously incredible

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
I finally went back and beat the Tree Sentinel in Elden Ring and now I feel a bit better about my ability to progress in this game, but man... I don't know what it is, maybe I've played the other games too much and now I'm trying to play this like a Souls game and not the way it's meant to be played. I did eventually realize that you really need to use the horse and the shield counters, but that doesn't help me with Margit, I still pretty much just get smashed and I feel like I can't read his movements.
I mean, I'll figure it out, but this is the hardest time I've had with a Souls game since Demon's Souls came out. Everything is either too easy or impossible.

I definitely didn't beat him and havent been able to play in a bit but what progress I did manage to make was summoning the mage by the boss door and using that ash summon power. He feels a lot like fighting the first pursuer while extremely under leveled

Yeah, same here. I also summoned co-op players a few times, but it seems like everyone's having a hard time with him. One time I got him down to like 10% and still died.
It also doesn't help that I just don't have time to play games this month, and I feel like this one's just different enough from the Souls games that you actually need some time with it to, uh, git gud. Decided to play the new Ratchet first, and then I'll take a real crack at Elden Ring when I actually have time to do it properly.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
"Decided to play the new Ratchet first" turned into finishing it yesterday. It's fucking ridiculous how pretty this game is, and it plays, well, like a Ratchet game. I think my only complaint is that you fight the same "robot with big arms and no legs" boss about 20 times over the course of the game, everything else about it is great. But I do really, really like these games, so all they had to do was make another one.

Man, I tried half a dozen times to get into this game, but it never clicked with me. Above all, I hate the floaty collission detection. I'd rather play Zelda 3 for the millionth time...

Hmm, not a lot of love for Mana around here. Interesting.
Started the Genesis Castlevania. I really dig the first three levels. Very interesting graphic tricks they used to overcome Sega’s weaknesses. But from Germany on, it drastically nose dived in quality and enjoyment. SNES Castlevania shits on this in every conceivable way. Will finish it, eventually.
And Witcher 3 continues. I even porked a chick I never porker before (card tournament).

It becomes a lot better again IMHO towards the end. Lots of great bosses. It's amazing in its own right, but yeah I also prefer CV4, above all else because it has such an amazing OST (apparently, this and Axelay were the only games that the composer scored. What a pity!)The Bill wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 3:48 pm Started the Genesis Castlevania. I really dig the first three levels. Very interesting graphic tricks they used to overcome Sega’s weaknesses. Haha what the fuck is it with this game... maybe I should try it out myself!

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
It totally is as good as everyone says. I replayed it last year and it's crazy how well it holds up.
Anyway, since I wasn't making any headway in Elden Ring, I finally caved in and looked up some info. I pretty much figured I had to be doing something fundamentally wrong because I was having so much trouble (although I did almost kill Margit that one time only to get knocked off the cliff), and, well, turns out you're supposed to go in the opposite direction of where the game tells you. There's a whole area all the way to the south called the Weeping Peninsula that has tons of loot, reasonably beatable enemies, and it's also where the inevitable early-game grey, half-collapsed castle area is located. So I guess what I'm saying is just do the opposite of what the game says you should do.

I also watched about 10 seconds of a Youtube video of this Secrets of Mana game you guys are talking about and now I have a weeb-shaped rash on my ass. No thanks. If I'm going to play an oldschool JRPG, I'll go back to Phantasy Star 2, thank you very much.

Yeah the gift of jrpg does not smile upon the rigidly heterosexual
But the tradeoffs are huge

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
Dagnabit! I was using the official Sega Genesis emulator thing on Steam. I guess Castlevania is a “mod” I got from the Steam Workshop and mods don’t quicksave. So, I have no save state for Bloodlines. Fuck this, I’m not playing it from the beginning again so soon.
I guess I never did all the question mark areas in Skellige (Witcher 3). So many smugglers’ drops. Yeah, this kind of sucks. I wanted to do everything possible on this play through by hook or by crook, but this is bunk! Also, no desire to do the horse racing, either.
I have a craving to play Bionic Commando for the NES.

Nice, that's one game I haven't yet gotten into. Haven't played the arcade original properly, either.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
Killed Margit this weekend. There's this summon that's basically a dog that gives enemies the scarlet rot, and it's kinda just a skip button for boss fights. It does a ton of damage pretty fast and typically lasts long enough to deplete the entire health bar. All you have to do is make sure the summon lives long enough to infect the boss and then not die until its health's depleted.
