IIRC it was basically a QTE where one of the bad guys tries to rape Lara and you have to press X to not get raped. It was kind of an awkward moment in the game because despite its pretensions of gritty realism, it's still a Tomb Raider game and therefore silly and escapist, so the rape thing just seemed out of place. But that was about the only problem with it.

Oh well - it got people talking, and the game deserved to be a success.

Bioshock: Burial at Sea 2 is split into 2 seperate downloads (on Xbox, anyhow). Didn't see that and I was going crazy thinking it wanted me to download episode one when it was downloaded already.

Thanks to the kids, the first game that I've played since only Dead Souls for two months is...

*Drum Roll*

Fucking Kirby on the Wii. Not the yarn one, the proper one. Made me think what an awesome Dark Souls mode could be made using the Kirby method. Absorb enemies weapons/powers after you kill (and eat?) them. Of course, you could actually have Kirby himself in it, which makes for 10 shades of retarded, yet totally excellence.

The device is nearly impossible to describe.
no it's fucking not, and if you write for a living, i'd hope you could string together something along the lines of "wearable binocular displays"
if there's anybody in the world who'd be fucking unobservant enough to actually damage themselves with trap-soap I guess it'd be the guy with dialup in 2007

respect the dead, ross

the most interesting thing about the deal is that a world changing, paradigm shifting, revolutionary device that "has the chance to create the most social platform ever, and change the way we work, play and communicate" is worth about 10% as much as a messaging app.

the truly fucking hilarious thing about this is that sony - kind of the newcomer, underdog figure in the VR market - is now positioning itself once again as the savior of consumer gaming technology.

microsoft announces consumer unfriendly gaming console? don't worry bros, sony's got your back. facebook turns oculus rift into horrifying advertisement dystopia? project morpheus bro.
As for exactly how Facebook will monetize Oculus, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on the call to investors, "We're clearly not a hardware company. We're not going to try to make a profit off of the hardware long-term...but if it we can make this a network where people are communicating, and buying virtual goods, and there might be ads down the line...that’s where the business could come from."
because i can't fucking wait to deal with three whole dimensions of targeted ads

"horrifying advertisement dystopia" would probably be a solid OR game

so FB insists they're going to let OR do exactly what they've been doing and change nothing. if that's true, who would be developing the social networking stuff? would the OR team just give a FB software team some kits and let them do whatever they want? I'm really curious about how all of that would work from a practical perspective. but no way do I believe that the game side of OR won't be affected by this in some terrible way.

amusingly the general sentiment at neogaf is about 30% pessimism and the rest is denial.
I think the knee-jerk reactions about this are both immature and premature.
If anything this is going to help VR as it proves big companies are interested in this technology.

So continues the hilarious downward spiral of gaming.

VR headsets will never, ever catch on. People will keep saying "oh they reeeeeally finally totally got VR now." They got it about as much as last time which is not at all. The mainstream won't strap a stupid thing on their face with friends around. People will use it for about an hour before they either get motion sick or bored.

Destined to fail device purchased by slowing failing social media site.

I hope all those kickstarter backers are happy with the fact that they basically gave money to Facebook.

I'm optimistic that John Carmack will go back to doing something constructive with his time.

Just make good games people. Games that are played with a controller, or a mouse an keyboard. Do it without fucking the consumer in the nose. That's all it takes guys. These fad devices will always fail.

That messaging app comes with a substantial client list. OR isn't close to releasing a final.product.

Good to see old man Cryptoplasty. Sure, the same things were probably said about HD resolutions ("I just can't see the difference" :| ), online games, and smart phones. I doubt it will be a huge mainstream.success but dismissing it as some.novelty or comparing vr tech today to two decades ago is kind of....stupid.
