I probably won’t ever play it, but how is single player? In games like this it’s usually just tutorial bot matches.spacehamster wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 3:03 pmCorrection: this one's a keeper.spacehamster wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 8:06 am I'm playing Ready or Not. With a controller. Fight me.
Seriously though, this will be one of those games I dabble in for like three days and then give up on, and I really shouldn't have wasted money on it, but I did.

I only play single player, and the AI is surprisingly good. Occasionally you order your squad to go somewhere and they just stand around confused, but I've had that happen maybe two or three times since I started playing a few years ago, otherwise the commands work great. It's really more a game of ordering your AI companions to clear and search rooms than you running and gunning, although of course there are people on Youtube soloing every mission armed with a toothpick and stern language, of course.
The single player campaign also has this whole thing where you can't reload saves, so if one of your squadmates dies, they're dead for good, and if a mission goes sideways, they all get stressed out and then you lose them because they have to go to therapy or they quit their jobs.

That sounds cool and all but this motherfucker’s plate is full like a motherfucker. In about a weeks time I can resume hostilities but I’m going to have to set up a schedule that will work as my mind is split between PS2 games, DOOM mods, Half-Life mods, and all them bastard still sitting on my hard drive like of gaggle of Greeks waiting on their coffee.

So…. Some asshole in Greece got drunk off of a plastic bottle of wine and bought Beyond Goid and Evil Remastered on Steam. So, this asshole in New York decided to play this mofo once and for all. Damn, this is a good game. I’ll be damned.
Also, a new version of RealRTCW, a mod for Return to Castle Wolfenstein was released. That and a beautiful HD graphics mod have turned the game into something new and better. June was filled with gaming disappointment, but September is looking good.

Eh, I lost interest in Beyond Good and Evil. I guess I’m not in the mood for a hub type RPG. I thought it would be more linear.
I did amass a PS2 library of titles that will probably take years to get through. The updated PCSX2 emulator is very sweet indeed. About halfway through Devil May Cry. I beat it back then, and probably liked it better back then, but I’m digging it. It’s probably influenced from The Rock and revival of love for Bruce Campbell, back then, that made for Dante being an arrogant prick, but it’s great. Now, flippant dudes in games are snarky or goofy in their machismo, straight up assholes are the best dude heroes.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
I bought the PS2 back when for Devil May Cry, so it was apropos that I beat it first for my retro dive back into the old girl vis emulation. Funny thing is, a lot of PC versions of these games are ports from the PS2, so the PS2 versions are superior. Any how, Devil May Cry, dated, your character fucks a clone of his mother in the end, and boy does this game get chaotic. Funny thing I noticed because I had beaten American McGee’s Alice before my extended vacation, DMC stole a lot of artwork, textures, and level ideas from it.
Next up… fuck, I don’t know too many games and now my daughter is in high school. Too damn old.

I need to play the first one first, right? I have it on Steam. When I bought it ???? But I have it, I think I dicked around with it once, kind of Gears of War with Orcs.spacehamster wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 10:16 am Space Marine 2 is out. Seriously, is Warhammer a European thing? I never heard of it till I’d see all these video games started licensing it then I saw there are knights and space marines and medieval shit and space shit and other stuff. In Ireland there was a whole store dedicated to it in Cork. Crazy stuff, mens.
Maybe a sign I should play Space marine or fucking Boltgun. A sign because on the PS2 I tried Medal of Honor: Rising Sun. It stinks! And quite frankly if I was a WWII vet, this garbage would piss me off. Worst of all, did these fuckers even test out the controls, it’s like they designed it for mouse/keyboard only then forgot the PS2 doesn’t use a mouse/keyboard.
I also beat Metal Slug 1. It certainly is an arcade game.

The company that makes it is in England, and that store you saw was one of an entire chain that exists all over Europe, so it's bigger here and especially in the UK and Ireland, but it has fans and at least one big convention I'm aware of in the US as well. The Bill wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 1:39 pm Seriously, is Warhammer a European thing? Anyway, unless you're a Warhammer nerd like me and really care about the story, there's no need to play the first one first. It's a direct sequel and some stuff won't make a whole lot of sense to you, but it's not super important. For someone like me, a lot of the game's appeal comes from how well it portrays the 40K setting, but it's also just good dumb fun either way, I would think. I love the first game and I've played it again pretty recently, but it's basically Gears of War without a cover system and with pretty dated looking graphics, and if you don't get a kick out of Space Marines calling each other "brother" all the time and oh, no, chaos demons, it's kind of dull and repetitive.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
I play the new games, so you don’t have to:
Son and Bone. Looked like DOOM (2016) meets Turok. It’s actually a dump I took in 2016 meets throw up. This shit is just a Quake 3 single player mod someone threw on the new Unreal engine. Nope!
Okay, PS2:
played a little Mortal Kombat (Deception?). Here I am, punching this broad who is wearing a face mask and blood that looks like strawberry jam is flowing out, but she is a mask, so how is this much blood vomit out of her and her clothes aren’t stained and the blood doesn’t stay on the floor. Mortal Kombat is pretty stupid, isn’t it? I’ll be deleting that and Molester Stallone can go fuck himself and his fighting games.
Shadow of the Colossus : beat 5 of these bastards so far, best showing yet (thank you, quick saves). I dig it, but it really is a puzzle game more than a boss rush. I think beating only one or two a session keeps it from being boring or annoying.
PC:
Warhammer 4K: Boltgun. I would have loved this had I played it in the 90’s/Early 2K. As is, I only just like it a lot. Thank the makers it has a path finding thing like Quake 2 remaster does.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
I really couldn't get into this one, and I believe we've just established that "has a Warhammers" means an instant bonus from me, at least if it's an action game. It mostly just made me realize that I don't really like any FSP arena shooters not called Doom Eternal. It's an annoying game structure that makes me feel like I'm not progressing, and there are very few games that do it in a way I enjoy. Not saying it's a bad game - it clearly isn't - but it's not for me.

It’s initial awesomeness has become not so awesome and rather same old, same old. I hear rumor that it gets really good in the middle, but I can’t see how this would really change outside of it getting really hectic . Which doesn’t especially appeal to me lately. I have so many games on the PC that I just don’t want to force myself to keep playing some that I’ll just want to hurry up and finish. It’s not bad by any means, so I’ll just blame it on my age, lack of attention span, and gluttonous library. Time to move on, for the Emperor!spacehamster wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 5:47 amI really couldn't get into this one, and I believe we've just established that "has a Warhammers" means an instant bonus from me, at least if it's an action game. AstroBot - great
MGS Master Collection - installed for a couple weeks now
Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers - good, but hasn't curbed my Balatro addiction.
Mother Russia Bleeds - fun ultraviolent sidescrolling co-op beat em up. Thumbs up
Robocop is due to arrive next week (physical copy was on sale)
Recently looked up the going prices for some of my old 360 games and was surprised to see 50 Cent Blood on the Sand and Wolverine Origins going for over $100 each.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
I had high hopes coming back from vacation. Finding all these games, I had high hopes…
Shadow of the Colossus (PS2 Emu) Each consecutive Colossus got more and more annoying as the horse’s turd that is this game’s controls kept fighting me. After an hour of trying to deal with archery on horseback against the sand snake/worm boss, where I never once could get it to show its weak point I didn’t rage quit. I bored quit and deleted the fucker. This is the fourth time I’ve tried with this game. Fuck this shit! I watched the ending on YouTube and it’s dumb.
Snoopy vs The Red Baron (PS2 Emu) My-son picked this one being ironic or wacky or something. First of all, the voice acting is brutal. Actual game isn’t a baby game or anything but reeks of a low budget. I was hoping for some wacky dog fights, but this could very well be just a Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament mod. Is it bad…. well, yes. Yes it is. Deleted!
Thinking about Silent Hill 3 or that new Alone in the Dark.

I basically fell into a Space Marine 2-shaped hole all weekend. Like once every 2 years, there's a multiplayer game that I actually get addicted to, and I guess it's not surprising that it's this one.

Oh, fuck no. I was doing quite well for the first three levels, but the last level stole all my life savings.
Speaking of arcade games. I “commandeered” a copy of the new Marcel Capcom fighting game collection off the internet because it has the elusive Punisher beaten’ up which is my favorite beaten’ up. But it also has Marvel vs Capcom 2 which is so over the top insane that I actually like it. All the Marvel fighting games are kind of decent due to the plethora and robust super power attacks. I applaud the creators for trying to make the fighters reasonably akin to their comic book (Graphic Novel) counterparts there by making Wolverine the most boring character.

Not only THAT but my Maltese doggy named Foo-Foo said if didn’t play it on original Neo-Geo hardware, then I never played it at all.
(PS2 Emu) Medal of Honor: European Assault. More like Your a peon Ass alt! Another one of these PS2 FPSers with terrible controls. Is it emulation error? Anyhow it’s garbage
(PC) Alone in the Dark 2024. Dude, the frame rates are schizophrenic as fuck, with crazy stuttering and temporary freezing. I won’t judge the game because my PC isn’t young anymore.,But deleted. Didn’t pay for it so, who cares.

I'm not a videogame elitist; despite at one point owning a Neo Geo MVS and an arcade cab, I'd never say nonsense like you have to play on original hardware to "truly experience" a game or whatever. Doesn't change the fact that "beating" a game implies that you kicked its arse, which is synonymous with not needing more than one credit to finish it. Otherwise, people with enough change could "beat" every game that allows continuing on the spot... obviously

What a bunch of nonsense. You do not have to 1CC an arcade game to say you beat it. Beaten game = you finished, simple as that. And your argument is even dumber if you consider that plenty of arcades can't be 1CC-ed at all, I don't care enough to Google it, but I would say there are more arcade games that can't be 1CC-ed than than the ones that it is possible to do it.THE KILL wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 4:44 amI'm not a videogame elitist; despite at one point owning a Neo Geo MVS and an arcade cab, I'd never say nonsense like you have to play on original hardware to "truly experience" a game or whatever. I like how you start your post with "I am not a videogame elitist" and then proceed to say a bunch of elitist things. It is the equivalent to "I am not a racist but ..."

Anyone playing any sports games? my autistic son got NCAA College Football 2025 and it's fucking SICK on the PS5. I used to have 03 and 05 on the Gamecube when I was in college and I played the shit out of both. It's wild how far they've come in 20 years.

No, not anymore. As I’ve been boringly rambling on about PS2, I forgot why I never played many games for it. Because during that era, I was buying the annual NHL, Madden, and WWE/F games 90%. I dicked around with the O.G. Xbox and GameCube for the action and adventure. The PS2 was the sports machine. So, no, sports games are a time sink I must abandon if I have even the slightest hopes of getting through 25% of the games I intend to play before I die.
