I saw that last night. They kept playing the video of it during the news. It was kind of distasteful. It's one thing to honor him but it's another thing completely to cheapen it by playing the moment of his death over and over again.

These games are complete fucking gong show. The main financier backed out due to the financial crisis so the city & government had to cover a lot of the expenses to get things completed. It's cost us $6 billion for what is essentially a 2-week commercial for the city of Vancouver broadcast worldwide. Fucking retarded. There's protests going on everywhere, which is fucking hilarious.

On a related note, the opening ceremony was fucking embarrassing. I think I'm defecting to Cuba. Fuck this shit.

With more than 15,000 members, it's the largest military presence seen in western Canada since the end of the second world war, an appropriate measure only if one imagines al-Qaida are set to descend from the slopes on C2-strapped snowboards. With a police officer on every corner and military helicopters buzzing overhead, Vancouver looks more like post-war Berlin than an Olympic wonderland. Whole sections of the city are off-limits, scores of roads have been shut down, small businesses have been told to close shop and citizens have been instructed to either leave the city or stay indoors to make way for the projected influx of 300,000 visitors.
