i knew "shine on you crazy diamond" was about him... but i just read the story about the guy gettin into the studio and not knowing he was out of the band for some years....
when i listen to the song i think about pink floyd being nigger-rich with these songs about him...and poor syd being a useless shitbag and not even getting a phone call from his bandmates.

what makes it more sad is that he is still alive.

I think his work and the work immediately after his departure is easily the best Floyd material. The further they got away from the influence of Barrett, the more pompous it became. Syd Barrett ist krieg.

syd barrett was / is a great songwriter.

'jugband blues' being one of his best tunes.

and as far as his bandmates not calling him that was actually because he didn't want to talk to them. david gilmour was the closest to him contact wise and that was only to make sure that he was getting his royalty checks. other than that none of them wished to bother him and he didn't want to be bothered. his sister and brother in law were fairly protective of him and his privacy.

He was amazing. I tend to dig the people that took his influence and ran with it a bit more at times (like Jennifer Gentle) because I find early Floyd to be really heavy and moody and ain't always up for that. I mean....who over 30 throws on The Wall and mows the lawn?
