Responding to a 15 year old post here but, in that experiment the victims already had syphilis. They weren't informed of their diagnosis and because of that never got treatment. It's weird how pervasive this misconception is.

I'm a bit confused about the defund the police one. Not sure what more boys in blue milling around would have done to stop a boat from accidentally hitting a bridge. Like one of them would have spotted it was too close or too big and yelled where ever they were on land and the captain would have heard them? Or they would have jumped in the water immediately to save drowners or thrown their donuts as life preservers?
