I didn't get along so well with The Recognitions but loved JR even though it's arguably even more difficult to read.

i started listening to later Mastodon because of a Drumeo video..and i'm really enjoying them. i'm tempted to revisit the other albums. Lifesblood and Remission are still my favorite but the tracks i've heard from 'Hushed and Grim' have a ballad-like quality to them. it's bittersweet and somber sounding, and Brann's vocals have gotten much better.

This last album of theirs is really good and really beautifully sad. this is good. they're not using the drummer as a crutch, they have actual memorable moments and have written songs not dependent on hyperblasting of Yuya.
