At work I listen to Christian Hip Hop in my little station because it won’t curse, or have the N word over and over. Just trying to be respectful. People get this idea that I’m straight edge religious guy. Then they find out I’m into Klamah, Amon Amarth, Sepultura, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Lacuna Coil, and etc. I start ripping guttural growls and singing some high pitched screams. People always look at me like I was suddenly possessed.

The recent ban of Amanda Gorman’s poem at a Miami-Dade County school, made me reflect on a video I made with *******, called ***************. Through the action of tearing down walls of books with our bodies, we physically and metaphorically tackle the societal and bureaucratic barriers that continuously devalue the arts and education. As someone who grew up with a mother who is a writer, I learned that books are our most valuable possessions. Rather than instilling a love of literature, are we teaching the younger generation to censor their voices and fear books? This book banning is dangerous and must be stopped.
