Explain The Term Hipster To Me

It's one of those words that never meant anything really specific, and lost most of its meaning when it became an insult. Like "postmodern." Anyhow, you pretty much know it when you see it, and it's pretty amazing how much time people spend worrying over who is or is not a hipster.
