What was that?
Fact #7
From an empirical viewpoint, the problem with Free Will (and causality) is reconciling determinism and freedom to make sense of morality.

Re: Anthony Fantano reviews the new Morbid Angel
he was on a parking lot of an abandoned Bank Of America talking about it's the perfect location to blow his brains out with the .45 and went into detail about being on the news for killing himself there.
he said that he's already done a lot of cool stuff with music but felt really let down that most Death Metal people are liberals. Then he ranted a bit about the "Democraps" and having a one last hurrah on that parking lot.
I think it felt more like a cry for attention. at one point the gun fell out of his pocket and casually commented "oops, don't tell people that"

Hahahaha, oh man. Chapel of Ghouls at the next RNC please, that should go over at least as well as Kid Rockpooptastik wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 4:28 am he said that he's already done a lot of cool stuff with music but felt really let down that most Death Metal people are liberals
Anyway, I hope this is just a weird drugged-out/drunken outburst and not an indication that he's finally lost his marbles for real.

Someone should splice together an MA song with all of Vincent's sketchy lyrical parts.spacehamster wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 5:25 amHahahaha, oh man. Start with the entirety of "Rebel Lands" and work from there, yeah.

Re: Anthony Fantano reviews the new Morbid Angel
My friend worked at Earache in the early 2000s and was tasked with taking Trey to the MTV2 studios to host Headbangers Ball around when Heretic was released. Trey was not happy about doing promo and would rather have been playing Quake all day. I get the impression he's been isolated over the years (probably of his own doing), so it's not hard to imagine that he could have some mental health issues. I hope he pulls himself together, the parking lot video sounds depressing.

Man, every interview he did post-1998 has been awkward as fuck and full of nothing but Quake talk.

I heard that Trey fucked up his back and has been struggling with opiates.
Getting into pain meds and reading Facebook is a combo that sends even strong minds into crazytown. I think for creative types it may as well be one of those cursed palantir crystal balls like in Can I Play with Madness

Yeah the opiates thing checks out because he used to just seem like a fucking geeky stoner who loved nerding out about Satan and Lovecraft and Quake, but I think opiate addicion + Facebook misiniformation + Florida is a bad combo for anyone

Re: Anthony Fantano reviews the new Morbid Angel
I did a phone interview with him when Heretic came out, and he was very standoffish until I somehow said something near the end that made him feel like maybe I actually "get it", and then he suddenly opened up and started asking me how I liked the new album, and we just chatted until the promoter cut in and told him we were over the time and he needed to start the next interview. It was... just kind of sweet, really. I got a pat on the back from my editor at the time for "cracking him" because he was a notoriously difficult interview, but I think he was just very guarded because everyone treated him like a freakshow.
Anyway, I hope he's going to be okay, but he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who has a healthy support system in his life. This all sounds pretty terrible.

Re: Anthony Fantano reviews the new Morbid Angel
Yeah I remember reading Metal Maniacs around the time of Gateways and whoever interviewed him, might have been Jeff Walker, did a deep dive on Quake and Sailor Moon for the first couple of pages before they really got into talking about the album because I think that's just the kind of guy Trey was.

Re: Anthony Fantano reviews the new Morbid Angel
When David Vincent split from the band again, Trey's mom was posting in his behalf that he owns the rights to the music.
At this point, maybe whoever he had in life that was taking care of him might not be of best health?
Shit like this depresses me because when you pull back the curtain, it's just a very talented person who has a mental illness - not some vassal who's possessed by demon from beyond the realms of human comprehension.

Re: Anthony Fantano reviews the new Morbid Angel
this type of stuff is why i find weird scene worship and hyperbole around music scenes so galling and hollow. local 'heroes' and 'legends' and all that just dying of the most insanely small things, living destitute. people pretending that it all means so much and its a big family or community makes me nauseous. i know a guy who just died of the most preventable aids complications completely alone and begging online for money. a lot of people are just too damaged and fatalistic and cant be saved if they dont want to but at the same time the pretense around the big family scenes shit has always rubbed me wrong

Re: Anthony Fantano reviews the new Morbid Angel
I know a local guy in a band that was just big enough at the time to have endorsement deals and tour a lot, but not actually pay the bills who told me years and years ago that if your band gets bigger, you just lose more money, and he was going to have to sell his parents' house because of it. I guess Cannibal Corpse are still making enough money to actually support themselves, but everyone else is basically throwing their lives away for their hobby and the scene bullshit that FBTS mentioned.
You add a lifelong untreated mental illness into all of that like in Trey's case, and you end up with... well, what's in that video. I hope someone helps him, but it doesn't seem likely.

The solo is a palindrome? ( assuming this audio is real and someone just didn't re dub it over the backwards parts )
