Jesse Ventura was the most mainstream figure I can remember talking about HAARP weather control openly.
And these ideas never ever go away, everything new in these mythologies are a repackaging of the old. One of the reasons I'm so fascinated by it all is just creating a genealogy of weird ideas in my head.

One thing that blew my mind in the last few years is realizing that every argument the 'Ancient Aliens' guys have, is repurposed stuff from older Atlantis guys. The Atlantis stuff was mainstream-huge from the late 19th century until about the 1940s - and the biggest push that movement ever got (talking $$$ and state-level interest) was under the Third Reich. Many of the notions and specific points of focus from Chariots of the Gods are essentially borrowed from some of the Nazi researchers who were bopping around South America looking for evidence of the lost master race.

when that shit fell out of favor and became tainted by the war, suddenly ancient aryans became ancient aliens. I sometimes think about making a website or shitty book about that moment of tradeoff, like 1935-1970. The History Channel talks about nothing but Hitler, Atlantis and ancient aliens but never fucking once did anybody explain this to me, I stumbled onto it myself because I'm a genius autodidact.

The facet of that I've notice the most is Illuminati/freemason theory becoming part of hip hop cultural. Intersecting with things like black Israelites "white people are Edomites, damned from birth".

In the 90's the only people I ever were around who actually believed the Illuminati was real were very mentally unstable and read books like The Creature From Jekyll Island or were mentally unstable and also aryan nations adjacent. I guess it shouldn't be surprising that the mostly historically maligned and shit on group in the history of the United States would start latching onto the same paranoid fantasies.
