I didn't know if this was an American thing or international, but I always seem to get stuck behind these old fucks in line who keep these lottery ticket wallets jammed with old tickets to be checked, and slips for new tickets. It usually takes about 10 minutes to complete all the transactions... they wind up winning about 10 bucks, then plunking down another 100 or so for the new ones... none of them look like they have the money to spend on lotto.

It's strange since when I was a kid I always thought I'd just buy tons of scratch-offs when I became an adult. Now, I realize that a dollar is worth more than 10 seconds of attention.

I see them just about every day. One wants to say, "You know, if you just took all of that money, saved it, put it towards..." *sigh* It doesn't matter. I'm annoyed that I'm still prompted internally to react this way.

I worked at a liquor store in Williamsburg a few years ago. Some people were so shitty about their numbers (along with not being able to understand them half the time in drunk/spanglish speak) I would just say the fucking machine was broken and talk them into buying scratch offs.

Many years ago I went into a 7-11 and there was an out of order sign on all of the Slurpee machines. The clerk saw me staring and said "they're not really out of order... I just do that because the niggers make such a mess".
