He had all kinds of force power pre-bot too, but was notorious for sucking at the emotional parts according to EU which, you know, choking someone across a room is a little different than sensing your daughter who never heard of the force let alone used it

riley's response is good and ALSO yet again I addressed this in/out force business in my stellar and prescient initial post. vader just has a stuffy forcenose, and he's great at bullying people since that's what he's been training most. yoda and kenobi could probably school him on telling how plants or rocks feel but I bet vader could waste them in just about any fight scenario*. this stuff isn't said explicitly but I feel like it's there...

*another reasons prequels blow - yoda flipping around like sonic COME ON the absence of contemporary people pointing out how deeply troubling a shark-leap that was is, in retrospect, deeply troubling. instead every goober was like "wow, yoda's got some seriously sweet moves" which nobody should ever be saying
