I dunno I think he was poking fun :pizza:

PERSONALLY that battered old tome is probably my favorite book - not quite as sharp as it seemed when I was 13 but for sentimental/film noir reasons I will sing it's praises eternally <33

I'm reading Tommyknockers again and I had forgotten how creepy it was. I've had mind-zapping slime nightmares for 2 consecutive nights.

somebody mentioned Koontz - Watchers... fuck Koontz and his gay dog stories. I like a few of his that I've read quite a bit, although I wouldn't exactly call them "horror". Seize The Night, The Bad Place, and Twilight Eyes were all really good... plus some others I can't remember right now.

All King I've read through about 1996 is awesome.

i remember holding The Stand and staring at the cover and appreciating how thick and heavy it was and really tripping out on how awful and soul crushing the story probably was and it gave me nightmares..

because the white robed dude was about to get straight sliced by this wicked demon imp thing and no one was around for miles and no one was going to be around forever.

I can never get into IT everytime I try reading it. Which is odd because it sounds like the coolest book ever written.

Christine is my favorite though. Fuck the shitters who hate.

i love stephen king books but the only real justification i can give is that they have the same certain retarded charm to them that michael crichton books do

I think that they couldn't leave the sewer as children. Such weird shit - everybody I've ever talked to about the book (quite a few) has mentioned that.

I still have my copy of It from sixth grade with a tiny smiley face drawn in pencil on the lower left corner of that page. I marked it so that I could find it easily while thumbing through.

i read IT when i was 11 and i somehow missed or didn't understand that part of the book because when someone told me about it several years later my mind was blown

i'm still kind of confused as to why it's even in there

It's a traditional use of a gangbang as a symbol for transitioning into adulthood, common in 19th century literature

12 year old girl.

If we're recommending "must read" kings. I'd say The Shinning or first 3 Dark Tower's.

Dean Koontz Frankenstein series and Watchers

Brian Lumley's Necroscope series (the comics were pretty cool too)
"1922" was particularly nasty.

Not for the weak of heart or mind, Mr. Ligotti's 'contrivance' is a dense and remarkable work of linguistic precision and poetic power, a horror story in which the uncanny monsters are us, and we've known it all along, in the backs of our minds: the self is an illusion, the body a gene-duplicating bio-robot, consciousness a tragic aberration that has imprisoned mankind to a life of suffering and reproduction. Here, the carnivorous universes of Lovecraft and Barron are shown to be not creations of fantastical speculation, but the universe in which we reside as deluded mistakes, born to suffer and die and make replicants to do the same.
Definitely going to read this, thanks Ross
