Holt fuck, watching that furry video and seeing their ridiculous pin on tails reminded me.
I was at my buddies' bike shop in a seedy neighborhood on a rainy day and in comes this fat DLF-looking jawfa that had a pin-on tail dragging behind him all the skid row filth water. He was also wearing paw-over finger gloves, and needed a bike repair but HE REFUSED TO GIVE THE BIKE SHOP GUY A NAME. We managed to choke it out of him, but he made ahuge fucking deal about it like it was some 007 top secret bullshit.
Later my friend told me he came back and they 86'd him from the store for being a crazy pain in the ass. The furry insisted on shaking my friend's hand when he was kicked out and when my friend did so he tried crushing his hand with his flabby, filthy paw and told him "To never talk to him that way again" in attempted tough-guy like DLF's day-labourer buddy. My friend told him to fuck off.

I dunno man, I don't think I agree. There's an air of "I feel embarrassed for what I'm doing but don't know why" but I can't give these oven-dodgers the credit I'd need to to believe they're self-aware enough to know why what they're doing is wrong.
I think the entire point of it is to waggle-dance in the face of social convention in a show of solidarity and belonging with other misfits...
I remember when I was 14 I would just adopt the mannerisms and style of other kids my age, doing retarded things like dress like a goth punk rawk metal rebel - all while assuming that everybody else understood what was going on, so I'd just sorta do the same dance and hope nobody noticed that I didn't actually understand why my pants had straps on them...
I don't think this is any different really... I'm starting to think that these people don't actually like the cartoon, they just enjoy talking to other people about something, and belonging to a subculture.
I really still don't fucking understand it though, this is just automatic-fire panic thought... I think about these guys constantly.
FWIW I don't find any of it particularly offensive at all... I think it's pretty sweet/adorable. It's also really not at all a far cry from my whole schtick, so...
