I guess I'm pretty woke because I totally believe systemic factors play a role in the definition of racism. It's absolutely true that individual black people or groups of black people or groups of any people can be racist. There's no way the beating of Reginald Denny was not a racist act.

The dismissal of the idea of systemic racism is a real problems. There has been decades of non woke research into this topic. The number one cause of black poverty is red lining, not "bad culture in the black community" You are over 20% less likely to get a job interview just for having a black sounding name. Disparagement in sentencing for violent and non violent crimes regardless of prior criminal history and the list goes on and on.

If someone was to call soccer hooliganism or the IRA a problem of bad white cultural that would sound strange and over simplified, yet it's become accepted even amongst African Americans themselves as some form of valid commentary.

I think the difference comes down to this, ask yourself how much of your daily existence do you feel is informed by the fact that you're a white male or how many times a day you are actively conscious of that fact. I'd be willing to say it's very few times if at all even once a day that you think about it. I don't believe the same thing could be said for your average black American.
