Seinfeld thread (had to happen)

Post by \m/Johnny\m/ »

I searched, and all the other Seinfeld threads sucked. This one probably will too. Anyway,

In the first couple seasons, Costanza was just a terrible impression of Woody Allen. This is bothering me and hindering my enjoyment of the episodes.

The shoulder shrug might be the funniest thing ever broadcast on network TV.

The best Seinfeld thread was the life lessons from George Cantstandya.

Larry David being a stereotypical neurotic Jew, and basing his comedy off of the quintessential neurotic Jew comedian. Even Curb your Enthusiasm has its Allen moments. I think it's unavoidable for David.

While I think that's on the money, somehow I can relate to Larry David, and don't relate to Woody Allen---which makes him more fascinating to observe like a complex introspective train wreck.

Both good times, but Larry make ya yell FUCK YEAH LARRY, and Woody had me going OH for the love of fuck...

anybody see that LD movie Clear History? some parts were amusing, but if anything i think it proved that 90 minutes is too long for an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm

David really let the misanthropy fly though a few seasons into Seinfeld, which got even more profound during Curb. That set him apart from Allen quite a bit.

Probably the worst thing about 90s pop culture in central Europe is that Seinfeld was only ever on in German, so I've barely seen any of it. And downloading it now just seems stupid.

Lots of American sitcoms are hugely popular over here - Friends and How I Met Your Mother are just as big here as they are in the States and nobody seems to notice or care how terrible and awkward the dubs are. I do think the humor in Seinfeld is a bit more culture specific and that may be the reason why it never really took off in Europe.

That's not really what I was talking about, though, I just couldn't watch it because it was unbearable in German, so I basically missed out on the whole thing.

seeing 10 minutes of friends in a waiting room once, and realizing how popular this show was made me lucid to the fact that most people in the Friends loving generation should be sent to the ovens. Let the panzers roll....
