Yeah, but somehow it never really took off they way it did in the US...maybe things got lost in translation, maybe the Germans aren't a funny enugh people, who knows.
Lots of American sitcoms are hugely popular over here - Friends and How I Met Your Mother are just as big here as they are in the States and nobody seems to notice or care how terrible and awkward the dubs are. I do think the humor in Seinfeld is a bit more culture specific and that may be the reason why it never really took off in Europe.
That's not really what I was talking about, though, I just couldn't watch it because it was unbearable in German, so I basically missed out on the whole thing.
I don't think Friends and HIMYM are as big here as they are in the US where basically everyone knows the series, at least in Germany.
The most successful sitcom here is Married With Children which is still on TV every single day.
P.S., Get Seinfeld it is still pretty watchable nowadays.
