like 5 distinct people came up when i googled “juggalette manyvids” - honestly slightly more than i expected

this reminds me: I went to see tech n9ne because he was performing like a mile from my house and i love those choppers songs for virtuosic noir reasons. as soon as I got there I was instantly reminded that he’s ICP-adjacent… the crowd was STAGGERING: just so many different sorts of hot mess personae. it would stand out even in the midwest, but in the SF bay area it’s beyond unexpected. not that people are uniformly polished here, I’m just more accustomed to seeing crust/hippie/stoner type weirdos, not like… hot topic x dumpster dive vibes. tons of white people, of course, but even the few black people there seemed like dweebs who never leave the house. I’m not trying to be mean or anything here, it’s just so shocking to be have been plunged into that specific social milieu.

i think the only rap performance I’d seen before that was ICP themselves during the late ‘90s (it was intentional). I want to say they performed with Gwar, but maybe I’m conflating colored-liquid memories…



is there a similar energy shared between metal, juggalos, horror movie aficionados, and MAGA types… where you know you’re a total piece of shit and to cope with this you posture extra hard about how elite you are?

ICP was a pretty weird band to begin with, but they werent all that different from GWAR until around 1999 - the cult was there but it wasn't "the juggalo type" yet. To me and my friends in the mid90s it was just some absurd jerky boys "crazy guys who stab people" nu-metal thing.

After being around for a few years, they shifted, and cultivated their fanbase (and the resultant subculture) by specifically welcoming people who had nowhere else to go. All their lyrics are about characters who are beaten down and rejected for being crazy, crippled, and ugly. Then they offer "family" with a promise of absolute unconditional acceptance. Everyone can be a juggalo, and the more fucked up you are the better since it's a carnival freakshow. It's extremely similar to a cult, although the spiritual stuff is more of a prominent theme and not the primary focus of the group.

I really think ICP is probably the most slept-on story in popular entertainment. It's fucking insane what they did, people know about it but they don't understand it. Someday some documentary is going to come out and there's going to be a reckoning.

It is the absolute embodiment of sklavenmoral ressentiment, if you want another way to look at it. You would say they're bad for being stupid and ugly, they would say that beauty and intelligence aren't meaningful criteria for valuation.

What they wouldn't admit to is that they're only cancelling values reactively, and that you initiated the process and call the shots. It's a bit like postmodern intersectionalism stuff, but in this case it creates peace for the ugly rather than the destruction of the beautiful.

I forgot if I told this on here, but years ago while on tour our van alternator broke and we barely made it to a jiffy lube. Whoever was working was getting off his shift and also fixed cars. He drove me to a shop to get a new one and told me he’d install it for like 20 bucks. On the way there I noticed that hatchet guy on his stereo and did an invisible eye roll.

Dude did a top notch job even cutting himself during the process. Afterward he hooked us up with a bunch of weed.

My opinion of the juggs changed very much from that moment on.

I’ve met some very stand up people who were fanatically into ICP. Even the smelly homeless couple on the bus seemed just really happy to be alive and wanted to shoot dice on the seats. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have stolen my wallet if wasn’t looking ( relatively sure)
