MIDLAND, Mich. (WWJ) — A Mid-Michigan woman is looking for a new home after police kicked her out of her previous dwelling… inside of a grocery store sign.

Contractors working on the Family Fare grocery store in Midland last week “unexpectedly found a woman, 34, living inside the rooftop sign,” according to a report from the Midland Daily News.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before in my career,” Midland Police Department Public Relations Officer Brennon Warren said, according to the report.

The discovery was made on April 23 at the store on Saginaw Road, near US-10.

Police reportedly came up with the nickname of “Rooftop Ninja” for the woman, who lived inside the store sign for about a year, according to the report.

Not only was the woman living inside the Family Fare sign, she also had a mini desk, flooring, a pantry of food and even a house plant, according to the Midland Daily.

The woman -- whose name was not released -- has a job and police believe she “had a vehicle at her disposal.” It was not clear how the woman got up and down from the sign.

Contractors discovered an extension cord on the roof and traced it to the dwelling inside the Family Fare sign, according to the report.

“They were like ‘OMG, someone is living in that sign,’” Warren said, per the Midland Daily.

When Midland police discovered the woman’s living situation, officers told her she had to find somewhere else to live and she was “trespassed from the business.” Authorities agreed to work with the woman to get her furniture down from the sign and back to her.

No criminal charges have been filed against the woman. Police offered the woman housing assistance and other resources, but she declined their help, according to the report.

Family Fare officials “politely” declined to comment on the situation, according to the report.

re: that woman in the sign… did i post about the people living inside an overpass? i guess the highway has a hollow section under it, and ppl cut a hole to get in, and rope ladder’d their way to the good life - there’s video of the dwelling, it’s like a whole compound
