Doombringer wasn't mentioned in this thread before? That record is definitely worth a few listens.

It is PAINFULLY average. It's almost as if they intentionally wrote an album devoid of any hooks.

That new Bloodbath album is not fucking around. Holy shit, its good. Guitar tone is a wall. Nick Holmes sounds great on it. Dont know why everyone is not liking him on the album. Listened to it on a good pair of headphones today....stellar shit.
I wish more bands could capture the magic of those days....

Heard a track. I could barely finish it, Nick Holmes' vocals has no power behind it.

i thought the same thing when I heard the first released track on youtube. You probably listened to Unite In Pain.
Listen to the album on a great sound-system. I think he sounds perfect for style. Give it a chance. A grower.
I was listening to it earlier and kept hearing so many influences.......One song had a moment where it brought me back to the brilliance of Carnage -Dark Recollections.....

The album has a bit of that Sunlight feel with a modern feel to it. The vocals are fine on most of the song, but the phrasing falls a bit flat. The real problem in Blakkheim noodling around with all that melodic nonsense during all the slow parts to make it sound eerie. Save it for Katatonia. Of course nobody in the band is gonna say anything because two of them are in Katatonia and one used to be. Axenrot did two tours with Opeth while Katatonia opened. There's not one memorable riff or vocal hook on that album.
