True Detective (HBO)
So, I'm not sure when Matthew McConaughey decided enough is enough with the romantic comedies, but I'm really glad he did as he's been pretty much killing it lately. Great series intro. He and Harrelson both seem at the top of their game on this. Some of the shots last night were just unreal. Good directing, good writing, good acting. Looks to be another winner.

Haha, I was waiting for this thread. Like I said in the series thread, good shit, has drunken Steve from Deadwood and a Twin Peaks/Se7en vibe to it. Think my favorite thing from McConaughey that I've seen lately was Killer Joe. Haven't seen Mud or Dallas Buyers Club yet.

True Detective follows Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) as a couple of detectives who are on a manhunt for a serial killer in Louisiana over a period of 17 years. According to Deadline, the case will follow the events in 1995, as well as subsequent interviews from the two detectives after the case is opened up again in 2012. This is where the premise gets fun. Unlike The Killing, True Detective will wrap up its case over the course of eight episodes, and if people like what they see, a brand new case with brand new lead actors will follow in the next season.

Didn't know about the new case/new actors part. Sounds like they're doing what American Horror Story is doing with storyline changes.Wang Mandu wrote:Pisscubes wrote:What's the premise?True Detective follows Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) as a couple of detectives who are on a manhunt for a serial killer in Louisiana over a period of 17 years. Drunken Steve from Deadwood was also the scumbag head of the prison guards on Orange is the New Black. I barely recognized him with all the grey hair now.elephants gerald wrote:hahah, yeah, I was happy to see this.ThePhillyExperiment wrote:has drunken Steve from Deadwood

Also, True Detective was really promising. Woody has also been on fire as of late, and the pairing of him and McConaughey has me excited for this series.

Also, I'm sure I'm not the only one here who thought of this after one of Woody's best lines?

Unbelievable. Wipes the floor with 90% of the television I've watched in the last few years in just one episode.

So far, I'm in. I did find McConaughey's character a little bit speechy though.

Re: True Detective (HBO)
I love that Woody Harrelson's character is constantly giving him shit about his troubled demeanor. When he was like "Stop all this 'I can smell the killer's fear' and 'This place is like someone's memory of a town' shit...it's fucking weird."

Re: True Detective (HBO)
superb acting as i expected. i didn't realize that this show if it gets renewed would have all new casts and an entire new case each year ala america horror story though, just read that the other day.
also, just found out today that the coen brothers are bringing a 10 episode FARGO tv show to Fx in April which will also employ the complete different casts and storylines premise each season.

Better put out an APB.
Harrelson's "WTF" look on his face when McConaughey came back to the dinner table had me cracking up.
