One of my tattoo artists LARPed with him back in the day and apparently he put a lot of people off with some psycho tendencies. He once smashed someone's guitar they had inherited from their grandparents because it was unplayable and afterwards seemed perplexed when people got upset because he didn't understand how something could have value beyond the utilitarian. I bet there is an amazing secret history of Varg to be discovered if someone did some investigative journalism into the old LARP scene and talked all to the people who used to play with him.

his take on things in that particular video is actually interesting - he very effectively expresses that these things were once living, ongoing rites, rather than conceptual beach balls in the hands of a denatured modernity. they were once mandatory both spiritually and actually...they were life, not part of life

that said, he does seem like a stay-at-home dad...and someone in another room there is pissed at him...I can fucking tell...haha...

a few heavies from hometown DIY punk/HC/metal scene have done a reigned-in version of the varg lifestyle... moving out to the middle of nowhere, homesteading hard, spending the bulk of their time doing crafts & home improvements and the remainder in some MMOPRG

looks like Varg pretty much won at life

I can't imagine what his kids are going to be like as adults
