I'm not watching a talk show hosted by that creep. I think I might have seen him in that Avocado movie Comedy Central played non-stop in the 90's but I could never make it 5 seconds into. His stand-up is fucking AWFUL.

I will say, I'm very liberal, and I've liked a lot of what Maher has said in the past. But for the past 3-4 years or so he's just been insufferable to watch, and the stance on Islam just soured me completely.

It's because while he likes to talk about the superiority of reason and science when he's doing his low-rent Sam Harris shtick, he actually doesn't understand a fucking thing about science and medicine, and the only thing he loves more than the low-rent Sam Harris shtick is conspiracy theories about Big Pharma.

Having given this an inordinate amount of angry thought, I've concluded that you can really decode the entire problem if you start at Maher just taking the car bomb story at face value. That he actually believes that pharmaceutical corporations operate like the mob really tells you everything you need to know. If this guy had an AIDS cure that works as well as he claims it does, and that he has actually published about, someone would have tried to acquire the patent ages ago. Either by buying him out (and one look in this guy's face tells you how quickly he'd sell his aspirations to cure the world) or, failing that, by swiping the idea, getting it patented first and then burying him under a lawsuit. But Bill Maher doesn't even understand that much. He just understands that pharmaceutical corporations are evil. Which, y'know, they are. But they don't need to blow people up to get what they want.

Bill Maher's willingness to accept GMO and Big Pharma conspiracies, yet completely shut down 9/11 "truthers", is also baffling. The fact that he believes that drug companies would pay assassins to take out critics or threats so willingly, yet thinks anyone searching for truth in 9/11 is some batshit wingnut really irritates me. I don't believe in either of those conspiracies, by the way, but the fact that Maher has no problem acting like all of America's health problems come from GMOs and Big Pharma is just ridiculous. And the anti-vax stance is appalling. The "evidence" he points to for being anti-vax is the same Jenny McCarthy bullshit that's been debunked countless times by REAL doctors.

Still can't find any corroboration for the car bomb claim, the only sources are Chachoua himself. I did find out that this allegedly took place in 2011, but still no details as to where and exactly when the bomb happened, what hospital treated his injuries, what was uncovered in subsequent investigation, etc.

Since I slept 4 hours and am hung over as fuck, it seemed like the perfect time to catch up on the latest episode of Real Time with Bill Maher.

He got through the opening monologue and half the interview with Gloria Steinem without saying anything painfully stupid (besides of course his general douchyness and unlikability), but then he really started trying to goad her hard into saying that ISLAM IS THE WORST without success

Now the panel segment of the show is when shit got really bad. He had assembled quite a crackerjack team, a real meeting of the minds this one: Some vapid MSNBC anchor, a Ben Carson campaign advisor and Bill Maher's favorite author (no shit) P.J. O'Rourke.

The favorite author thing immediately raised a red flag, and let me tell you this guy turned out to be THE WORST

Imagine if Bill Maher grew a creepy puberty stache, wore ill fitting unironed suits he probably slept in (to give credit where it's due - Bill's wardrobe people get him suits that fit) and spent the best parts of his life as an alcoholic instead of a pothead and you get a sense of this guy's general demeanor. Mr. O'Rourke is libertarian (of course) and he laughs at every one of his own shitty jokes which mostly consists of dismissing every Bernie Sanders supporters as potheads by making the internationally recognized hand gesture for smokin' a doobie, and still Bill Maher thinks he is just THE BEST cause Bill Maher is nothing if not stupid

Most of the time the audience and the other panelists never laugh at P.J.'s terrible jokes and it makes it really uncomfortable to watch, and since every one on the panel is idiot there is absolutely nothing intelligent or insightful is said I must admit I drifted off and couldn't pay any more attention.

When Erin Brokovich was introduced my prejudices were firing on all cylinders, but I was actually impressed by the sheer amount of hard facts and statistics she had memorized, so she actually brought some much needed substance to the show

I ate cereal during new rules so I couldn't hear Bill over the crunching
