What is grindcore now?

The genre is over 30 years old. That means when most of us started posting here around the turn of the century we were closer to the advent of disco than we are now to the genesis of grindcore. Is grindcore better or worse now than disco was in 2000?

I try not to do that sort of math. My first Morbid Angel album was Blessed Are the Sick, which came out in 1991 - 27 years ago. That means it's as old now as the first Beatles album was when BAtS came out. Think about how prehistoric the Beatles seemed when you were a kid listening to Morbid Angel. That's what kids today think of Blessed Are the Sick. Now extrapolate to all the classic stuff from the 80s that already seemed old to you back then. We're all relics from a past older than we thought imaginable.

Modern day Grindcore is as much an aesthetic as it is a musical genre - like Rockabilly.
