You really just discovered parallel signal chains?cxwx wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 3:17 pm Found a "duh" moment if you're running more than one amp that I'm sure other guitar players have already done for years who are less dim witted than me. Having one amp very saturated and another amp a lot more dry ( still distorted but less than you would have normally ) the combination seems to be a lot heavier than both amps being at unity gain as the dryness of the one amp sits on top of the gain blanket of the other amp.

There were less than 30 VLines made before the luthier killed himself. It's wholly handmade, right down to the HINGES ON THE HANDMADE CASE.
most of them are bizarre gay future shapes, but this one is a goddamn sword

That's not what I said. I've been running parallel amps for years. I said it was a duh moment fucking with the EQ a particular way. You're like the ninja turtle who makes a joke about The Adams Family and then elbows his buddy like it's the funniest shit in the world.Brutus Frank wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 7:25 amYou really just discovered parallel signal chains?cxwx wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 3:17 pm Found a "duh" moment if you're running more than one amp that I'm sure other guitar players have already done for years who are less dim witted than me. Oh, and you didn't just figure out EQs, your primary issue (according to yourself) was that you had your gain set the same on both. Lemme guess, same reverb settings on both as well.

Red maple body with an ebony stain finish, grungy affinity neck but it cleaned up ok, chinese/amazon loaded pickguard & hardware. Mammoth Slinky strings for the wound G. No guide holes for the screws, very satisfying crunch piercing the virgin wood. Definitely gonna have to do this again.

Re: Gear thread
So if we have things like Z coil pickups why hasn't some nerd made some really ugly pickup where every coil is set at the optimal relation to every string. Seems no less ridiculous than true temperament frets. Or how about a pickup where you can adjust the position of every coil per string as the "optimal" position would be a matter of opinion.

I think we've all heard about dirt poor musicians boiling old guitar strings ( although detuning them and snapping them against the fret board seems to work amazingly well and takes a fraction of the effort. ). Am I the only person who cuts the tip of the pick with some scissors when it gets dull?

I've done that with a nail file before, like filed off the dead/hanging part of the pick so the side is "fresh".cxwx wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 12:47 pm I think we've all heard about dirt poor musicians boiling old guitar strings ( although detuning them and snapping them against the fret board seems to work amazingly well and takes a fraction of the effort. ). Re: Gear thread
Filing it eh. Not sure if that's worth the effort. Snipping it takes a few seconds but then the pick is always shorter than you want it afterwards.godofdeadlydeath wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 1:20 pmI've done that with a nail file before, like filed off the dead/hanging part of the pick so the side is "fresh".cxwx wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 12:47 pm I think we've all heard about dirt poor musicians boiling old guitar strings ( although detuning them and snapping them against the fret board seems to work amazingly well and takes a fraction of the effort. ). Re: Gear thread
I haven't done it in a long time. I tend to use Dunlop Tortex (the blue I think 1.00 mm ones) and when they get worn out I just toss them because I have about 20 unused ones.

Re: Gear thread
Have you tried the tortex flex 1mm? ( like a Cloudy semi white color) It seems to have a more lively quality than the regular tortex. Lately I've been going back and forth between that and the yellow .73 tortex. It's used to like the green .88 a lot but not so much lately.

Re: Gear thread
Haven't tried the flex, I don't think. I used to use the purple tortex when I played in lower tunings and was just a downstroke chug rhythm dude and didn't play as many leads. Since I started writing a lot more melodies/solo type shit I found the blue ones were better for me when it came to faster/alternate string picking. I tried the Hetfield White Fangs which I also liked but they kind of disintegrated quickly and I didn't love that, especially since they were more expensive.

I wonder if someone is going to buy the rights to the Sustainer now. Never played a Fernandes that I know of, but always thought Kenny Hickey had a cool one, and the Strat style one Kirk Hammett had in the 80s was sick.

Re: Gear thread
My Telecaster was pissing me off lately with buzz on certain frets and I finally took the time to assess the neck, adjust the truss rod, adjust the action, and set the intonation last night and now it's playing a lot better. I pick pretty hard so I generally prefer higher action than most, but I lowered it a bit on the 1st-3rd strings and now my open chords are better intonated and better to the touch.
I also ordered a new bridge and tailpiece for my Epiphone Gothic Les Paul. I've had that guitar since I turned 21 in 2004 and it still plays really well on the neck but the bridge is falling apart, some of the saddle screws are broken so I can't really adjust it. Once I install the new bridge and tailpiece I think I'm gonna set it up with .12s and use it for Bb-standard/Drop Ab tuning exclusively.

Re: Gear thread
The funny thing is the Fernandez sustainer was actually a copy of the sustainiac but everyone thinks the name "sustainiac" was an invention of Fernandez. They claim the used market as being a high contributor to their downfall which if is true doesn't bode well for the giant brands who just put out the same model guitar over and over again but companies like Gibson deserve to die at this point.godofdeadlydeath wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 7:12 am I wonder if someone is going to buy the rights to the Sustainer now.

Re: Gear thread
I give Fender credit for making just enough modifications and different versions of their classic models over the years to keep newer, less-wealthy players engaged and interested. Squier has stepped up big-time, and so has Epiphone, even if Gibson itself seems to be in a reinventing period and sort of losing its identity.

I just think Gibson are run by total assholes. With all their lawsuits and $8000 blues dentist guitars. Suing dean for body shapes but they make superstrats that look exactly like fenders.godofdeadlydeath wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 12:40 pm I give Fender credit for making just enough modifications and different versions of their classic models over the years to keep newer, less-wealthy players engaged and interested. If you want a good laugh the scum bag from TTM guitars is trying to start his company again.

Set up the Epi LP with the new bridge and tailpiece last night, was able to intonate properly and put it in B-flat standard.
