People are always quick to credit him for his guitar playing, but I think it was more that he was a fantastic showman and he had an incredible voice that really made him stand out. Like, sure, his guitar was loud and fuzzy in a time when most people weren't doing that, but it was the whole package that made him a star. Guitar nerds that only emphasize him for his playing don't really get why he kicked ass.

As a guitar player Hendrix is still one of my heroes, but his stuff would suffer greatly if he didn’t have one of the tightest and most criminally underrated rhythm sections in history backing him.

Led Zep’s rhythm section is the only thing I like about the band including their music. It makes me smile whenever reading about how hilariously unkind critics were to them when they first came out.

The Final Cut is better than Wish You Were Here.

I grew up to listening to Final Cut since my dad loved it. My mom fucking hated it. Came out when I was 2. I didn’t understand why there was so much screaming and uneasiness but it was my intro to what I would eventually like most about the music I respected.

Waters was on a Marc Maron podcast a long time ago and MM compares it to Plastic Ono Band’s first album with Lennon toying with scream therapy and it’s just perfect.

Animals is the most punk rock non punk rock album I’ve ever heard. Pretty sure it was them trying to take the piss out of the scene when it first came out, and boy did they fuckin do it.

Too bad almost all the shit after that was overproduced dumb garbage. Final Cut though is a good example of a wild card. If Rick Ruben oversaw production pitchfork would still be jacking off

Animals is so great. Just the layout of the album musically is perfect. "Sheep" is my favorite Pink Floyd song. You can tell Rogers was really hating himself and also being famous and popular at the time.

It's one of those songs that shouldn't ever be covered because nothing will get close to the building and the layering of the original and it's just an iconic song the way it is, BUT I will say that Mastodon's version is shockingly adequate and a great tribute to their friend.
