I love boozy egg nog and haven't encountered many alcoholic mixes I didn't enjoy

some (e.g. tequila) are just so obviously wrong that I haven't tempted fate so brazenly

brandy, whisky, bourbon, rum... even this pre-mixed old fashioned thing that I enjoy

I have a bottle of armagnac (the shit artie bucco was trying to move in that S4 sopranos episode) that I enjoy but I have not yet put it in the nog... now that I've typed it, I think it must be done

Believe it or I'm not a big fan of boozed up nog but it seems like rum is the best choice as I don't like the taste of straight rum but it seems to be the best hard liquor to use as a mixer.

I really love rum cocktails, and at some point it dawned on me that I could be buying better rum than whatever the hell I had been using

so I did some research and got some slightly nicer rum (appleton estate) and while it definitely tastes better on its own, it's almost too mild to work well in whatever sugary cocktail I'm having

so I just use kraken or sailor jerry's or whatever, and life is good

my favorite rum cocktail is a gussied up dark & stormy:
2.25 oz dark (and/or spiced) rum
3/4 oz lime
1/2 tsp absinthe
3/4 oz honey/ginger syrup (this is a pain to make, so you can just put in 4 oz of ginger beer and be most of the way there)

Rule of thumb is any booze with vanilla in the profile go hand in hand with nog, which is why Evan Williams has such a popular premade egg nog since they have both that and banana notes working for them, plus they’re cheap as fuck (but good). Rum is usually overkill imo because I hate stuff that’s too sweet, but that’s just me. If you use rum go with brown not clear.

If I was going to spike mine it would be with a smoother mid shelf whiskey since I have in the past and it yielded satisfying results. Too much cherry like makers mark or JD could be another overkill decision, but hell, see how it goes if you wanna be adventurous.

I’d have to do a taste test with cognac or other foofy grape brandies since I’ve never done it. Deville is an ok cheaper option but if you wanna jazz it up throw in some name brand shit.

Another funky option would be apple brandy like calvados, or applejack if you wanna jam econo

So Delicious makes a vegan egg nog based in almond milk and it's tasty. I don't do the boozy nog thing. I am considering giving up booze entirely in 2022 just to see if I can. I don't drink that often these days as it is, just going to see if I can cut it out completely.

Fuck I forgot how to use this forum. Anyway, I love traditional nog but it is quite heavy, like pancake batter. Some of the non-dairy versions are lovely and lighter. As for the booze component, I’ll need to investigate this further!
