According to Bill Maher's audience, just saying the word "memes* is brilliant comedy now. Like, you don't even have to share lame bullshit on Facebook anymore like your divorced uncle, you can just say "memes" and then burst out laughing to let everyone know you just made a joke.

I still can't really process the sheer amount of stupid in these 20 minutes, I always want to say ten things at once. But I do think the worst moment is when Bill Maher says what he likes about Musk is that he has a sense of humor. Like, this is the guy who bought Twitter so that he could ban people for making fun of him, and he's your lord and savior in the apocalyptic war against the WOKE MIND VIRUS. Okay.

I agree with the youtube comments: that audience was flooded with muskies, many of whom were essentially on a mission to laugh & applaud.

I NEED to believe this... but maybe that's just because of the chronic case of WMV I've been dealing with

guys, freedom of speech is so SO important. the first amendment is being trampled on by all these corporations and their policies, and this has to stop. the constitution matters!

I like what Elon is doing, and I agree with Ross that freedom of speech is an important constitutional right, because it makes it easier for me to openly praise Adolf Hitler (who I love).

Elon Musk is an Apollonian force who will help save this world from the forces of darkness. I'm being serious. Without him I would have no way to spread the teachings of Adolph Hitler, who plays a messianic role in my personal life. I thank Hitler on the Golden Throne of Christ for his gift, freedom of expression, which serves no role in the lives of men except as a window through which shines the Light of His Black Sun. I would never joke about this.

To be honest, I'm kind of glad he's deteriorated into full-blown boomer conservatism. I used to agree with him about a lot of things, but it always made me feel dirty because of how fucking smarmy and painfully unfunny he was, and now he's just a cautionary tale about how if you had vaguely non-conformist views in the late 90s and never thought about anything again, you're probably just an angry grandpa now.

I guess Americans couldn't continue fighting communism forever, specially since communism imploded and died like 40 years go, so now they have created a new enemy, the "Woke mind virus" and Elon is here to save us all from it.

This is what kills me. This guy literally has all the money on the fucking world but he’s so incredibly bad at the job of pushing his own propaganda. Why doesn’t he have an army of handlers teaching how to talk/post? He should be able to convince the masses how amazing how world view is and just have all the plebes eating out of his hand by now. I guess money can’t fix autism.

The firehose of stupid plussing of Twitter—it's a TV platform (for Tucker Carlson lol)! It's for podcasts! It's a dating app! It's Skype!—tracks back to his equally-incredibly-stupid idea of, and I quote directly from his own dumbass Twitter account, "creating X, the everything app"

You can't even get regular videos to play on the site half the time

This was my favorite, by far. An app that lets you do everything you can do online in one place.

IT'S CALLED A FUCKING WEB BROWSER.

Funniest thing ever.

From what I've read, the guy enjoys huffing his own farts far too much, and everybody who's not a lickspittle has either been fired or left his companies. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't enjoy taking advice. What a dumb little cunt.

He wants to make the western version of what WeChat is in China. A single app that allows everything, social networking, communications, payments, online sales, dating, etc. The operating system becomes then irrelevant, it becomes simple middleware to run the X app.

You can't monetize the browser.

Of course it is a pipe dream, this is not China, we like our freedoms.

It's more than just the flag-liberty of it all, the regulatory landscape is entirely flipped around in the US and EU vs. China. China actively cultivated a small handful of winners in e-commerce and maintains a walled garden re: outside players; the US and EU take a dim view of that kind of tech consolidation, and the only real place-of-origin restriction is when the US goes full Chinese Exclusion Act whenever an app developer isn't adequately hostile to Beijing.

Musk has shown he absolutely sucks at navigating U.S. regulators (see, e.g., his recent appellate loss over an SEC consent decree because he can't help but commit stock manipulation), and I guarantee any attempt to go vertical with X is going to be a series of very public pants-shittings.

Tesla created secret team to suppress thousands of driving range complaints
In March, Alexandre Ponsin set out on a family road trip from Colorado to California in his newly purchased Tesla, a used 2021 Model 3. He expected to get something close to the electric sport sedan’s advertised driving range: 353 miles on a fully charged battery.

He soon realized he was sometimes getting less than half that much range, particularly in cold weather – such severe underperformance that he was convinced the car had a serious defect.

“We’re looking at the range, and you literally see the number decrease in front of your eyes,” he said of his dashboard range meter.

Ponsin contacted Tesla and booked a service appointment in California. He later received two text messages, telling him that “remote diagnostics” had determined his battery was fine, and then: “We would like to cancel your visit.”

What Ponsin didn’t know was that Tesla employees had been instructed to thwart any customers complaining about poor driving range from bringing their vehicles in for service. Last summer, the company quietly created a “Diversion Team” in Las Vegas to cancel as many range-related appointments as possible.

The Austin, Texas-based electric carmaker deployed the team because its service centers were inundated with appointments from owners who had expected better performance based on the company’s advertised estimates and the projections displayed by the in-dash range meters of the cars themselves, according to several people familiar with the matter.

Inside the Nevada team’s office, some employees celebrated canceling service appointments by putting their phones on mute and striking a metal xylophone, triggering applause from coworkers who sometimes stood on desks. The team often closed hundreds of cases a week and staffers were tracked on their average number of diverted appointments per day.

Managers told the employees that they were saving Tesla about $1,000 for every canceled appointment, the people said. Another goal was to ease the pressure on service centers, some of which had long waits for appointments.

In most cases, the complaining customers’ cars likely did not need repair, according to the people familiar with the matter. Rather, Tesla created the groundswell of complaints another way – by hyping the range of its futuristic electric vehicles, or EVs, raising consumer expectations beyond what the cars can deliver. Teslas often fail to achieve their advertised range estimates and the projections provided by the cars’ own equipment, according to Reuters interviews with three automotive experts who have tested or studied the company’s vehicles.

Neither Tesla nor Chief Executive Elon Musk responded to detailed questions from Reuters for this story.

Constant, constant, constant abstraction from nature can only lead down one path (and that's a bad thing!)
