I think the idea that he feels the need to retire from music to be fucking dumb. There are a ton of drugged up women beating assholes in music. But whatever.....drink some more you fucking bum.

I've never really listened to the band. I read his admission in an article, and was pretty suprised by it. I don't think I've ever seen someone detail a list of offenses like that in the first person. I guess maybe in cases like this the perpetrator is generally denying things or refusing responsibility?

Neurosis lost me with A Sun That Never Sets when I watched the dvd. Here I was - real geeked on them having absorbed some Eyehategod-isms into their TSIB sound after a tour together... and they put out a naval-gazing, mopey, soul searching album that would end up being a post-hardcore blueprint that many other groups spawned from. There's a few bands of that ilk that I enjoy and it's not to say that the Neurosis stuff was BAD... It just never clicked for me.

It's obvious to everyone that the abuse started when I stopped liking them, and their music is 100% indisputable evidence of that.

initially i thought so too but i think you should read the statements by the band and his collaborator sanford parker to get a better understand of the tactics at play.

I will forever feel guilty for this... and only this. It's the one thing I have done that has ever bothered me. I'm completely fine otherwise. Everything else is always really cool, so I'm sure you can only imagine how this tears me apart.

The fact that Scott felt he had to make a (pretty fucking detailed!) statement NOW is concerning - especially with the recent revelations that Neurosis was essentially over with three years ago. I hope the family is ok - but I don't know how a family recovers from this kind of thing. I hope they can.

pretty sure you guys all know (or could deduce) that this band/guy doesn't mean anything to me

that said, the timing of this story is wild from my POV. my super close friend and I were in vegas for that fest a couple weekends ago, and apparently his friend knows one of the neurosis dudes. the two of them (neurosis guy and friend-of-my-friend) had just driven up to medford (aka methford) to try and track down SK, because he had been essentially disappeared since pre-pandemic. this seemed impossible, but the internet confirmed it - not through any stories or anything, just total silence from the guy's social media. huh. reportedly they were driving around hunting for him with no luck - eventually found his babymama and she told them to fuck off. apparently he drives a red chevy blazer, so at one point they were just hitting up every trailer park they could find in hopes of spotting his vehicle. they never found him, of course... I guess now it feels like this could have been some sort of catalyst for the subsequent confession or whatever?
