Why is it considered so unfilmable? Whenever people talk about it, it sounds interesting but not really structurally complex. Usually when there's apprehension about film adaptations its just because of weird narrative orders or something like that.

I've never understood why it's "unfilmable" either.
If you adhere to the text, word-to-word, then yes; it's probably going to be difficult to film.

But leave out the three total paragraphs out of 500 pages with naked kids and animal abuse and it should be fibe.
