What can possibly be done about climate change?
Everything is blanketed in smoke. Apologies if this isn't particularly well-worded.
In order to curb, combat or end climate change I believe we would need to massively end industry and transportation. Every version of this I've ever considered results in a lower quality of life for people's children, which I do not believe anyone would accept.
Most energy thrown at the issue seems to center around convincing doubters that it's even real. This is obviously necessary, but what then? If all the world and everyone in it marched like clockwork towards The Solution, what would they be doing?
I don't understand what technology would replace combustion, and I don't understand how anyone could successfully implement a ban on combustion. If all nations miraculously stopped, I believe they would begin again once the famine and disease started up.

Makes absolutely no fucking difference if we're still using tankers to ship happy meal toys across the ocean w7283847283 times a day.

Re: What can possibly be done about climate change?
One thing I’ve heard that would help even slightly is carbon sequestering. Basically growing any crop, could literally be just a field of weeds and harvesting it then sealing it inside cement blocks so it can’t release its carbon when it decomposes. This would create jobs at the same time and (allegedly) the net energy consumption involved in the transportation/harvesting/ sealing of the plant matter still ends up reducing emissions. Sounds like overly simplistic bullshit but the person that was talking about it actually works in agriculture so they seemed to know what they were talking about.

Fact #7
From an empirical viewpoint, the problem with Free Will (and causality) is reconciling determinism and freedom to make sense of morality.

There's this other probably equal problem where were shooting poison every which way and everything is dying from that too.

Yeah it looks like a fuckin Carpenter movie around here, as concerning as it is I feel an event like this would have happened even if we didn’t beat earth like a red headed stepchild.

The only way we're going to see any kind of improvement is if EVERYONE starts pretending there's a God. Then, as landlord supreme, God will have no choice but to fix things - otherwise, we start withholding prayers.

Re: What can possibly be done about climate change?
The real solution is not up to the individual, the concept of "Carbon Footprint" was created by the oil industry (British Petroleum to be exact) to transfer the guilt from the corporations into the consumers, making you think you are the one deciding and you are guilty because you could choose not to do whatever that had a high carbon footprint. But truth is whatever the individuals do is still a drop on the sea, the real solutions have to come from governments and must be in the big scale.
And to make things worse, there is no real solution yet, because we created a world that depends on oil. People concentrate in replacing oil as a source of energy and using clean energy (solar, wind, water, geotherm, etc), but that's only a piece of the big puzzle. Without the oil industry and its derivates we can't continue farming in the big scale we need now. Farming needs oil products.
And going Uncle Varg and creating our own farms is no solution either, traditional farming is extremely inefficient, so if too many people do traditional farming we make the situation worse.
So, yes, we are probably doomed. Good we are not going to be here.
P.S., In the meantime, eat less meat, cook more, stop drinking bottled drinks (except beer and wine), stop using too much plastic, cycle when you can ... and do all that while not being a hippie, very difficult.

Re: What can possibly be done about climate change?
I was just about to post basically the same thing as Krieg - consumer virtue signalling won't fix this, the real solutions are at a scale where only politicians and corporations can operate, so the solution is to stop electing fucktards and actually vote for people who are going to get shit done.
Which, yeah, the conclusion is we're fucked.

It's fine
EDIT: when you realize the difference in albedo between sea ice and open sea is around 19:1, and between continental ice and polar soils around 10:1, you start wondering just how easy it is to sabotage an oil refinery
