I was into this video, but then he starts with the roguelike stuff and by heart dropped right out of my ass in disappointment.

Anyone ever know what happened to Merlock? He was favored to win Deathmatch 95, but lost and had "some issues".

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
Subscribing to all these YouTube DOOM channels bit me in the ass and my GZDoom folder became a cluster of unorganized madness. So, I deleted everything. When I get back in September I think I’ll give that Ashes series a spin as it looks better than most of these new paid Boomer/Indie shooters.

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
Yeah. It’s 2024 and the official version still doesn’t have mouse look/Y Axis and still doesn’t have wall decals or blood splatter. I don’t get it.

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
I wrote a whole ass long post but navigated away from it accidentally
Basically though i think giving people the mouselook option would fuck up deathmatch
Deathmatch WITHOUT mouselook kinda blows to me now, but keeping the real game vanilla is a choice I respect very bigly
I wish people would play vanilla deathmatch with gzdoom or zandronum like in 2006 with Justin Barger and Katie, but nobody does, it's abandoned

Some nerd on the Facebook told me to hat Legacy of Rust does work with Brutal Doom, but if it adds new weapons and monsters how does that work?Eight Bit Alien wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 7:53 pm I'm downloading the new wad to see if i can get it to work in gzdoom with b r u t a l d o o m

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
So if you update to the latest GZDoom, the new episodes work with both Brutal Doom and Project Brutality, including the new monsters. Haven't gotten to the new weapons yet, I assume they probably won't work... but I've been surprised in the past.
These levels are GREAT. Really fucking well-done, creative shit. Cool music too. The end of level one made me laugh out loud a little bit.
They are BALLS hard, like I couldn't get past level 2 using Brutal Doom. I think BD's gameplay changes might make this stuff basically impossible, the new levels have a lot of ambush choke-points which make BD's cover fire/reload style a little tricky. I'm going with Project Brutality because it tends to be easier, since you can quickly replenish HP using the melee shit. On level 3 so far and really enjoying it.

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
I’ve looked into the well of infinity and might want to play some of this shit vanilla as long as the controller support is decent. It’s available on the dirty consoles, so it should be.Eight Bit Alien wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 9:25 am So if you update to the latest GZDoom, the new episodes work with both Brutal Doom and Project Brutality, including the new monsters. Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
Kinda disappointed w the mod support on the new bethesda thing of doom 1+2. I doubt brutal or brutality makes it on there for some reason
The mod browser is trash and the multi-player is pretty busted too
I won a 16 man ffa to 30 kills though

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
My-son brought his PC labtop with him so I made him install the new DOOM version. Controller support finally feels good, and I’ve tried the PlayStation 1 and Xbox Live Arcade versions. But, man, I haven’t vanilla DOOM’ed in ages, so slow and the guns feel weak. Brutal DOOM has brutalized my brain.

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
Yeah dude it takes a minute to get used to doesn't it the speed is really the main difference to me.
My main issue with controllers on DOOM ports is that the fucking mouselook NEVER feels right, no matter how much fiddling I do. I guess that wouldn't matter for these tho. I might give it a taste on the Switch if the controls really do work well

I think you're very unlikely to see them. My understanding is that both of those mods (and many of the other really nice ones) are totally dependent on GZDoom source port - to the point where trying to port them to a different engine would be a "start from scratch" kind of thing. It's a shame because all of the absolute best fanmade episodes are GZDoom jawns, and so casual players who don't fiddle around with weird executables from ancient messageboards will literally never even hear about them.

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
I feel like Nightdive could get Brutal Doom working with that Kex Engine that Lucifer gifted them for their souls. On PC, at least. But, the time and employee resources to do so probably isn’t worth it to the money handlers there. Too busy making their enchanted versions of Project I.G.I. and Nightmare Creatures.

I watched a few YouTube videos of what mods you can download through the official port, and now I’m anxious to play them with a controlled. I’m dumber than I thought.

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
I temd to really enjoy realistic military stuff shoved into doom, as stale as it is with regular games, I enjoy the "real human army vs demons from 1993" shit so much that it freshens it. My favorite levels are the military ones with tanks and shit, unfortunately I feel like I've played em all

This is AWESOME with brutal doom. Jus fucking great. Tormentor667 is a deity, really one of the GOATs. These maps have been absolutely POLISHED for modern gzdoom, it's just basic doom textures but the lighting is wowowowoowow good. It's amazing what that engine is capable of an how few people really commit to it, o guess to maintain compatibility with other shit or vanilla

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
Alright! Finally, The Bill has come back to DOOM!!! Forcing myself to play through DOOM II with that brand new Brutal Doom version and the new soundtrack from the official release back in August. I noticed I can change monsters to vanilla behavior but they still retain the blood and dismemberment. This is very good for slaughter maps:

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
I never liked those mini games from the 360 era, like horde mode or that Call of Duty zombie stuff. No multiplayer, no co-op, no deck building. None of that jazz. Just give me a well polished single player campaign and please don’t insult me with the ending.
