Mostly compressors, limiters, and EQs that were modeled after insanely expensive real hardware. There were a couple bundles that included tape echos, plate reverbs, tape emulators, and other effects, but I didn't get much in the way of instruments. Will these things make the music sound better than some AI plugins? Probably not for a while... but it's helping me understand the principals of layering, frequency cuts, gluing, etc.

Fabfilter suite is fire as fuck. soothe 2 is fire too. I also highly suggest Portal, Current, Synplanyt2, SubBassXL, Pigments, PhasePlant, Transit, Efx FRAGMENTS, Sonible Smart Limiter, Valhalla VintageVerb, VISION 4X all this shit fucks hard.

EDIT: MiniMeters is amazing and inexpensive too.

I'm definitely in the Valhalla fanboy club 4 life.
I got so into it that I started using it in places where it wasn't appropriate - like when you discover a new hot sauce and then put it on everything, until your guests start complaining that your cupcakes taste weird

Synplant2 looks super intriguing, it's the kind of technology that seems fucking scary - like once that stuff gets cooking you can really clone a tambre/instrument just by dropping a sample into your program, where does that leave engineering and sound design as skillsets??
I spent my entire teenage years obsessing over sounds i heard on records, trying to figure out how to re-create them. Pursuing that, looking up to the engineers and producers I admired... that's at the center of my life.

What does it mean when somebody can do that automatically without needing to understand how it works? Without necessarily caring at all?

I don't know the answer but I will definitely pretend to have a firm grasp on everything soon, so I can use it as a weak justification for pirating the plugin, instead of paying for it

PIGMENTS is great too, I don't use it very frequently but it's my favorite from that style of synth.... whatever you call that, the big pretty wavetable plugin with little animated windows showing how everything is routed. The enduring legacy of EDM as a whole... is those plugins ahahhah

Arturia in general is an institution i would lay my life down for - their line kf vintage synth emulations entered my life around 2019 and fucked my brain up ever since. I never expected this but their minimoog became my most-used plugin overall, its fucking indispensable
