I was blinded by my own irritation at medical doctors who act pissed because people took on some burden for their own medical care. that first line is so loaded that all I could think about is how fucked healthcare is in the US - MDs train like crazy and then don't even have a chance to spend time with patients & actually care for them. it's so atrocious. you're way better off if you do act as a "self-taught doctor" IMO, and that feels like a parallel to programmers. but your explanation is 100% correct.

the crusaders were actually guarding a christian metal/punk show, and what we see in the dragon's claws is the mix of christian punks and metalheads. so the dragon children are eating Jesus crust for the first time.

mom dragon only feeds them the metalheads, but its because she eats the Jesus crust for herself out of selfishness because they are stinky and delicious to her, where as the christian metalheads are essentially hotdogs or chicken nuggets.

my biggest issue is that the archers look like they're wearing a "tunic + belt" outfit and it got me off kilter. I guess I accepted that the white stuff was armor, but then it wasn't totally clear if the white stuff had been removed between the penultimate & final panels.

I am POST-PATRIARCHY so I didn't presume the dragon's gender, and seeing the adorable baby dragon say Mom poisoned my brain - I thought that was Mom right there!

so... the typo. I thought the armor was still on (it was!) and the kid was trying to say "Mom, take the crusts off" which is perfectly fine in the insane little tale I had crafted, but it's certainly not funny

I wasn't even totally convinced "Mom" was supposed to be in italics, because "off" is halfway there, for fuck's sake

I bailed out on this one and turned to you guys for guidance, and like always, I was not disappointed.

this comic would have been much more successful (for me, anyway) if they had really established things in the first panel with a prominently displayed dragon cock
