Fact #7
From an empirical viewpoint, the problem with Free Will (and causality) is reconciling determinism and freedom to make sense of morality.

That and Wicker Man are like Powerslave and Piece of Mind, or like Holy Diver and Last in Line. Brother/sister albums that could have been one two disc release.godofdeadlydeath wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 12:14 pm

Re: The "Song of the Day" thread
I was cold towards DoD when it came out, but I've really come around on it. Passchendaele is great obviously, and Montsegur is a favorite because for once I'm interested in the historical event Bruce is howling about.
As far as post-reuinon Maiden... for me, Brave New World is still the best metal album of the 21st century. I cannot overstate what an absolute cornucopia of joy that fucking disc has been for my life. It kinda breaks the spell of those awkward years metal had post-grunge, if you take it in a historical perspective. Thank you Gamma Ray and Iced Earth, nice try... but Bruce is back and we've got it from here.
I would say that it's their best album overall, fully prepared to dodge rotten fruit thrown by 80s faithful. Those older albums obviously had some better songs but there's always one or two slightly dopey tracks thrown on those releases which hold them back by comparison, for me.

The absolute confusion and rationalization going on when DoD's cover art was revealed is something i will never forget
You pretty much had to be there... only Phantom Menace or St Anger cognitive dissonance comes close
"Well they did it like that on purpose because.... uh.... well if you look at it like this..."

A: I meant Brave New World not Wicker Man. I have an Iron Maiden Wicker Man drink coaster in my man cave I see everyday.Eight Bit Alien wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 7:46 pm The absolute confusion and rationalization going on when DoD's cover art was revealed is something i will never forget

B: I custom changed Dance of Death’s cover art on iTunes to something a bit better, which I might have gotten from Somethingawful.com . Fucking Transformers Beast Wars art shit. I think this is the cover I use:
