Re: Have you ever rode on the atheist bus?
Atheist - a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.
Agnostic - a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.
To deny god exists is just as ratarded as saying god does exist.
Thread over.

It's going to take more than dictionary definitions, flashy emoticons, and fourth-grade reasoning to not look like an ass here. The borders of the different flavors of atheism and even agnosticism aren't black and white, though I'm not here to teach you, just in order to equip you for an argument.
"To deny god exists is just as ratarded as saying god does exist."
"Just as"?
Do you have any sense of proportion, scale, probability in that pinhead of yours?

Seriously, you'd flunk out of a survey Logic course.
But you know what, I don't want to change you, I like you just the way you are, that retard who occasionally slips into all-caps and likes to think he's manipulating others into arguing with him, when the whole time he was really risking a little part of himself, exposing his real beliefs, then flinching as if burned and feigning apathy all the while, perhaps farting into his cupped hand to bite at the odor and finding simple pleasure in the tickle of the gas, while diligently watching the subject lines for mad lib-thread parody hijinks. I like the fact that you honestly believe the chasm in the leap of faith to god is an equal measure to the one away from god, and probably are still ensorcelled by solipsism, that "whoa man, like, what if this is all fake, what if everything is just a dream of mine, I can only knowz myself hehe."

Re: Have you ever rode on the atheist bus?
Vagectomy/ Netherworld/ Agnostics: The existence of god can't be proved or disproved with 100 percent certainty. Therefore, it's a question of personal faith, not subject to reason or evidence.
Atheists:
Here we have a classic case of special pleading. Almost nothing can be proved or disproved with 100 percent certainty. And proving with 100 percent certainty that something doesn't exist is virtually impossible.
Which is why we don't apply that standard to any other kind of claim.
We don't say, "Well, you can't prove with 100 percent certainty that the Earth orbits the Sun -- it could be a mass hallucination caused by a mischievous imp -- so we should give up on deciding whether it's probably true, and call it a matter of personal belief."
With every other kind of claim, we accept a standard of reasonable plausibility. With every other kind of hypothesis, we accept that if there's no good evidence supporting it, and there's a fair amount of evidence contradicting it, and it's shot through with logical flaws and internal inconsistencies, and similar claims have never turned out to be right.... then unless that situation changes, those are good enough reasons to reject it.
Only religion gets the "If you can't disprove it with 100 percent certainty, it's reasonable to believe it" standard.
Why?
When asked, "What evidence do you have that this is true?" how is it reasonable for believers to reply, "You can't absolutely prove that it isn't"? How is that even an argument? How does it support the claims of religion? How does it do anything but armor religion against the expectation that it support its claims?

This statement applies to every single thing you could ever discuss. Think about the meaning in this.Scumfucker wrote:______ can't be proved or disproved with 100 percent certainty.

Might be more accurate to say "I don't know if anything can be proved or disproved with 100 percent certainty, but based on my experience and observations, at the moment, it seems the most probable that it can't." Then again, maybe I need to give The Illuminatus Trilogy another read.Necrometer wrote:This statement applies to every single thing you could ever discuss. "All affirmations are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense."
"Do you understand?" "In some sense."
